Responsibilities This position shares the drinking and wastewater oversight responsibilities listed below with a peer, full-time, water subject matter expert.
Manage water media environmental programs and compliance for wastewater discharge, storm water management, wastewater pretreatment, technology-based air standards for managing wastewater, aquatic exposure guidelines, soil & groundwater protection, spill reporting, oil pollution prevention, secondary containment, land application, and drinking water. This includes the development of written standards, electronic tools, training, reference materials, and leadership of a community of practice
Provide expert environmental regulatory and policy consulting, assistance in implementation of requirements, assistance in achievement of environmental goals and assessments of performance for Lilly business unit customers
Assist in the development and implementation of Lilly standards and requirements
Engage in professional organizations and advocacy activities on behalf of Lilly
Support/lead special environmental projects of greater risk, complexity or requiring unique subject matter expertise
Function as Environmental Representative to capital projects according to Lilly standards and procedures
Conduct environmental compliance assessments and audits
Manage site Industrial Discharge Pretreatment and NPDES permits
Manage site water pollution control written plans: Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures, and Accidental Discharge Pollution Prevention Plan
Perform duties as the Certified Wastewater Operator in Responsible Charge for Lilly wastewater pretreatment facilities
Oversee external wastewater environmental testing laboratories
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, or other related scientific field.
Minimum of 10 years of significant environmental regulatory experience in water/wastewater media.
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position
Subject matter expert in US Clean Water Act regulations
Knowledge of water pollution control practices and technologies
Working knowledge of environmental water chemistry, wastewater treatment and management, drinking water systems, land application, and storm water conveyance.
Wastewater analytical chemistry laboratory experience or regulatory oversight
Wastewater permit management
Meets the expectations and capable of achieving Indiana Certified Water Operator Indiana Class D industrial wastewater treatment operator certification
Work experience in a local, state, or federal environmental regulatory agency
Base-line knowledge of Clean Air Act, SARA, CERCLA, TSCA, FIFRA, HMR/DOT regulations adequate to recognize issues and direct to appropriate resources
Experience with land application permitting
Although initially the regulatory emphasis will be on water/wastewater issues, the individual should anticipate some eventual cross-training on other environmental media.
