In support of this goal, the Global Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics & Pharmacometrics (PKPD&PMx) organization provides scientific leadership and technical expertise to support the discovery and development of new medicine from preclinical lead molecule identification to clinical post-drug approval. PKPD scientists are a core member of the discovery and development team, responsible for driving strategy to identify and develop the right drug with the right dose for the right patient using model-informed drug research and development (MIDD) approaches.

To further advance the science in this discipline, we are seeking a Senior Director/Exec Director based in the UK who will lead a group of PKPD Scientists and Pharmacometricians in Europe to support our portfolio. In this exciting scientific and administrative leadership role, you will have opportunities to apply MIDD principle to influence drug research and development strategies, provide mentoring and coaching to staff, and be a part of the leadership team to develop and implement strategies to deliver medicines that will make life better for patients around the world.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide scientific leadership and support to PKPD scientists in developing and implementing clinical pharmacology, PKPD & PMx, and quantitative system pharmacology strategies to address key questions, resolve issues and influence portfolio decisions. Review and/or approve global regulatory documents, clinical plans, consulting on scientific and resolution plans, study designs, analysis plans, and clinical study reports.

  • Advance and implement department strategy to maximize cross-functional partnerships, explore and champion innovation opportunities, and prioritize efforts to build new scientific capabilities.

  • Provide administrative leadership including allocating and prioritizing resources, executing business plan, implementing departmental and divisional strategies, leading and implementing quality standards, and streamlining business practices.

  • Develop performance plans and objectives, conduct performance reviews, and provide mentoring and coaching to staff to facilitate their professional development.

  • Participate on intra- and inter-departmental committees and scientific forums to provide input on the portfolio, resource management, process improvements and contribute to the scientific and strategic direction of the organization.

  • Representing the group to increase visibility externally, through key publications, active leadership in key scientific organizations, industry trade groups or consortia.

  • Perform responsibilities as a PK/PD scientist as needed.

  • Perform responsibilities delegated by the AVP of Global PK/PD & PMx.

Key relationships

  • Reports to the AVP, Global Head of PK/PD & PMx.

  • Strong partnership with the team of Global PK/PD Leadership to manage and prioritize portfolio needs including internal and external support.

  • Establish key cross-functional partners across functions in discovery and development.


  • Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics, Drug Metabolism, Chemistry or an advanced degree, e.g. MD, in related sciences.

  • Knowledge and expertise using MIDD for drug discovery and development.

  • Prior experience of participation in drug discovery and development projects in a pharmaceutical setting relating to translational research.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to lead a group of Ph.D/MS/BS scientists in a cross functional setting and matrix environment.

  • A significant number years experience in relevant drug development and regulatory experience within the discipline of PK/PD & PMx or closely related discipline.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Prior supervisory experience

  • Strong interpersonal communication and team-building skills, including demonstrated experience working in a team environment.

  • Possess a high degree of scientific and business acumen in order to prioritize resources to most effectively reduce risk and maximize the value of Lilly assets.

Other Considerations:

  • Candidates must be willing to engage in domestic and international travel to the degree appropriate to support the business of the organization. Time expected for travel less than 5% in a given year.
