Job Description

The Workforce Productivity Services (WPS) team is a global team that delivers innovative technology (hardware, software and services) with a strong focus on customer service. The team is a component of Lilly’s Global Infrastructure Services organization.

The Systems Engineer role within Workplace Productivity Services (WPS) plays a key role in both the definition and delivery of the technologies that support end user computing services within Lilly. This spans both device management systems and end user hardware, which come together to provide a truly excellent user experience balanced with consistency, supportability and data security.

This particular role sits within the team responsible for Mobility, Mac , Client Virtualization and Software Processes (MMVS). The team operates with an agile mindset and aims to both capitalize on strengths and technical depth but also the opportunity to flexibly grow additional skills in role. In doing so we aim to ensure we have a flexible workforce that can be deployed to projects that provide the maximum return on investment at a particular point in time.

The initial specific assignment for the successful candidate will be decided based on the individuals existing expertise and near-term aspirations, considering current business priorities.

The engineers’ responsibilities within the MMVS team include:

General Responsibilities:

Oversee and engage with external services providers to ensure consistent reliable operations. Ensuring appropriate service governance. Engage in high priority incident/problem management as needed. Interface directly with impacted end users.

Engage in project work, deliver with an agile mentality. Lead small/medium technical projects.

Setting direction, delivering, and institutionalizing best practice with an eye towards global alignment with fallbacks to regional/local approaches where relevant.

Coordinating with other Lilly Infrastructure teams (network, hosting, service management, security, site services etc.) to implement and enhance robust service offerings.

Engage into relationships with key suppliers (i.e. mobile carriers, hardware vendors, software vendors, and service providers) Seeking to understand industry trends and baking those opportunities into the Lilly roadmaps.

Partnering with WPS Management, Lead Architects and beyond to develop a cohesive endpoint strategy and defining the place of specific product offerings within it.

Personal curiosity and drive to automate high touch/high volume processes, using appropriate capabilities (e.g. Azure suite, ServiceNow capabilities etc.)

Demonstrate strong understanding of compliance and security. Demonstrate systems quality orientation proficient in documenting systems design and processes.

Mobility/Mac Related:

Configuration of Unified Device Management (UEM) platforms such as JAMF, AirWatch and Microsoft Endpoint Manager.

Configuration of and integration with Apple Business Manager.

Configuration of and integration with Mobile Threat Defense solutions.

Define and implement OS configurations that align to Lilly’s system, quality & security framework expectations.

Manage operating system upgrade cycles. Manage platform upgrade cycles.

Oversee and advise on application deployments into the device landscape.

Play into an evolving IOT device management strategy.

Client Virtualization Related:

Configuration of product suites such as Citrix that support Lilly’s client virtualization offering.

Leveraging Lilly’s cloud first strategy with a current particular focus on Azure and AWS for storage and compute use cases, along with a thorough appreciation of traditional data center fundamentals.

Define and implement systems monitoring capabilities to ensure high availability and an excellent user experience.

Familiarity with both Windows end user and server operating systems so as to enable provide fit for purpose client virtualization solutions.

Manage operating system upgrade cycles. Manage platform upgrade cycles.

Scripting proactive automated interventions.

Software Related:

Provide technical expertise and hands on implementation of technologies that support software inventory, software deployment and software reclamation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar technical field

  • Demonstrated ability to assess customer/client needs, creatively approach solutions, decide and influence appropriate courses of action

  • Hands on experience successfully coordinating External Service Provider (ESP) engagements.

  • Hands on experience managing enterprise infrastructure

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Deep existing knowledge of either: iOS/MacOS device management with JAMF (or alternative)

  • Client Virtualization with Citrix (or alternative)

  • Experience with on premise data centers and related middleware (eg ESXi/vCenter) from a hosting/storage standpoint.

  • Experience with Azure and/or AWS from a hosting/storage standpoint.

  • Must have strong learning agility and be able to solve complex problems and recommend enterprise solutions

  • Must be collaborative in nature

  • Ability to respect and work effectively with diverse groups

  • Motivation to educate self and others

  • Strong team coordination, communication and partnering skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Additional Information:

  • Planned work location for this role will be either Lilly Corporate Center, US, or Arlington Square, UK to benefit from collaboration with existing personnel. Other geographic locations may be considered based on relevant experience.

  • Minimal to moderate amounts of after hour notifications and incident management engagement
