Research Scientist - Bioinformatics
The incumbent will join a bioinformatics and genetics team that support all aspects of drug discovery for diabetes and complications therapeutic area. The purpose of this position is to contribute to the developing science of diabetes drug target identification and validation utilizing large-scale multi-dimensional human genetics, real-world, clinical and other proprietary deep-phenotype datasets.
Primary Responsibilities: The primary responsibility for this position is to integrate and apply state-of-the-art algorithms to large-scale datasets and ensure analyses solutions are implemented in a robust and scalable manner. The incumbent will work in an agile, team-focused environment amongst fellow geneticists and bioinformaticians. The following skills are required for this position:
Strong R/Python programming skills and work experience in Unix/Linux environment
Good computational and data visualization capability/experience to aid results interpretations
Apply knowledge to build state-of-the-art analytics and computational pipelines
Strong communication skills
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
MS, or PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, engineering, data science, mathematics/statistics or related discipline with proven experience in large scale computing.
At least five years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills with the ability to lead projects in a team environment.
Demonstrated project management and time management skills.
Attention to detail, critical thinking, and analytical ability.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, within and across culturally and geographically diverse environments.
Proven ability to assemble, share and apply key learnings across multiple projects.
Other Information/Additional Preferences:
Interdisciplinary experience especially at intersection of computational and scientific disciplines.
Leadership skills, ability to lead initiatives and projects.
Knowledge of medical and statistical terminology; willingness to expend effort in acquiring scientific knowledge and understand strategic issues.
General knowledge of scientific literature search and retrieval.
