The LCCI Sr. DevOps Engineer role reports to…. The role has the following main responsibilities:
Own and lead the development and delivery of automation to enhance the user experience for customers that leverage the enterprise DevOps products and other GIS services and applications.
Develop, encourage, and promote ways to automate and integrate existing products to provide a streamlined user experience and modern DevOps ecosystem.
Provide technical expertise on the portfolio of products being used currently as well as quickly being able to learn the nuances and develop the skills to support new products, applications, and their corresponding automations.
Document and maintain an in-depth knowledge on our portfolio of automation available for customers to use including processes they must follow.
Adhere to industry best practices when developing or working on new solutions and ensure contract resources that are assisting with development are doing the same.
The role of GIS within the organization is to embed and scale identified emerging technologies that will positively disrupt Eli Lilly to “power our business”. This includes growing our cloud footprint, strengthening our CI/CD pipeline and automation efforts, increasing our mobile and social capabilities across Lilly, and continuous improvement and innovation-driven processes to accelerate delivery across IT. GIS will be driven by the enterprise business needs supporting the required people, process, and culture transformations.
GIS brings not only the technology, but also reimagines how technology should be consumed, and then drives the development of processes, methodologies, and services to accelerate time to business value. This role, by focusing on how our employee’s, partners, and customers consume our services is essential to ensuring that the IT strategy can be realized, and that our business is ready for the change. The main purpose of this role will be to lead the technical efforts around automating our internal GIS processes.
Take ownership of executing on incoming automation ideas that have been approved and work to incorporate those enhancements into the overall GIS roadmap.
Lead the delivery of projects from the GIS Automation Team roadmap. Everything from idea to implementation to continued improvement and measuring success or impact to the organization.
Work alongside GIS teams to establish engineering excellence within GIS Automation Team
Drive workable, simple (where possible) solutions with a re-use methodology to promote future reduced “time-to-value”
Ensure timely escalation and resolutions of issues (project / operations) with appropriate follow through and ops engagement
Utilize certifications and industry experience as a Cloud Engineer to improve how services are offered, such as Heroku, AWS, Jenkins, Docker, Github, Salesforce and ServiceNow.
Engineer modern IT solutions ranging from developing and leveraging API’s, automating deployments using CI/CD tools as well as building on top of modern cloud offerings including AWS & Azure.
Architect cloud applications using modern architecture principles such as micro-service design.
Minimum 3+ years of proven technology leadership experience, preferably in DevOps role
3-5 years working in a similar role or with transferable skills and experiences
Detailed knowledge and experience standing up and maintaining API based integrations
Experience developing automated solutions, integrations, and microservices to speed up delivery and improve user experience
Experience working with Quality for compliance and documentation standards.
Experience translating complex and ambiguous concepts into actionable plans and solutions.
Being the lead engineer within an agile scrum team.
Organization: Responsible for completing a backlog of work in a timely manner and taking ownership as a Sr. Engineer to help prioritize developer backlogs.
Act as the technical lead for team members, helping clear any roadblocks that impede other developers, as well as advising their work and mentoring resources to continue building their technical and professional expertise.
Be mindful and ensure that delivered solutions meet not just technical, architecture, and application principles, but also ensure IT Security and Quality requirements are followed.
Be comfortable with architecting web applications within AWS and Heroku.
Applying previous software development skills into practice by developing APIs in Python/NodeJS.
Ensure all delivered solutions are ready for operational support and that a smooth transition occurs including sufficient work instructions, knowledge transfers, and documentation.
Has proven experience working with Infrastructure as Code, Configuration Management systems, CI/CD pipelines.
Demonstrated high level of intellectual curiosity, external perspective, and innovation interest.
Understand microservice architecture.
Experience as a coach and/or mentor in developing technical resources.
Certified AWS Architect, DevOps Engineer or Developer.
Driven leader with strong self-management skills and comfortable working with ambiguity.
Experience with Serverless compute such as Lambda.
Prior experience with Amazon EKS or Google AKS.
