Medicines Development (MD) Information and Digital Solutions (IDS) serves as a strategic function within Lilly Research and Development. There are tremendous opportunities in MD IDS as continued investments are made in the transformation associated with speeding drug development and achieving the goal of Digital Development for Lilly. This transformation includes moving to an organization that embraces information, analytics, process automation, and cybersecurity in the drug R&D enterprise.

In order to inject awareness and a sense of urgency into the organization, build a sustainable environment of people and technology, and achieve business outcomes from insights generation, MD IDS established an Insights Hub earlier this year. The role of the Insights Hub is to champion the understanding and application of Advanced Automation and Analytics technical capabilities for the generation of human-first and machine-first insights that deliver efficiency and transformational business impact for pharmaceutical development at Lilly. Our team is growing. We are playing a leading role in transforming the way the company discovers and develops new treatments, identifies personalized treatment regimens, drives efficiency in our operations and optimizes our commercialization of new projects. We are doing this with an emphasis in the areas of machine learning and artificial intelligence, natural language processing and other approaches to unstructured data, advanced mathematical and predictive modeling, visual analytics and more.

The Insights Hub is a fully Agile Scrum team, with the immediate need for a motivated individual to serve as an MD IDS Developer for the team. In this role, you will influence and deliver technical solutions and data architectures, define data models and structures, build re-usable accelerators for analysis, and maintain a knowledge base of best practices.

Key Objectives and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a broad understanding of the pharmaceutical industry (from discovery to commercialization) and be fully engaged with teams, bringing an objective voice to the table, and facilitating decisions grounded in data

  • Influence team members, management, and business SMEs in the application of Advanced Automation and Analytics technical capabilities to inform business strategy, define architecture, and deliver valuable solutions

  • Establish effective relationships with MD IDS business partners, strategic vendors, and other IDS teams, including Advanced Analytics and Data Sciences (AADS), to generate technical requirements and partner in the design and development of re-usable data products for downstream analysis and insights generation

  • Utilize business and technical skills to evaluate proposed project ideas, software designs, and/or technology changes (including vendor solutions) to drive business value outcomes and influence management decision-making

  • Propose new ways of approaching business solutions with emerging technologies; prototype new ways of applying technologies to achieve the desired business outcomes; educate others so that they can demonstrate the new ways/prototypes to achieve the desired outcomes

  • Educate the MD IDS organization in Advanced Automation and Analytics technologies

  • Exploit internal and external professional relationships to improve the probability of successful Digital Development strategy execution

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 3+ years of experience with the software development life cycle spanning project initiation, design, development, testing, deployment, support, and retirement

  • Shown in-depth technical knowledge and experience in technologies such as Python and Amazon Web Services (AWS) like Lambda, API, DynamoDB, S3 and IAM.

  • Effective learning agility and software technology practitioner in one or more of the following technologies: Elasticsearch, Machine Learning (Expectation is candidate has one or the other)(Pytorch, Scikit-Learn, AWS SageMaker), AWS continuous integration and deployment, Business Intelligence (PowerBI, QuickSite), React.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical development business processes and how the expanding role of technology is influencing them

  • Demonstrated proficiency with analysis, modeling, and interpretation of common and complex data structures, including SQL query development

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written)

  • Shown partnership skills; work with team dynamic strengths and different viewpoints

  • Shown negotiation skills; utilizes experience and knowledge to persuade others in reaching sound decisions
