Lilly MD IDS – Support Engineer (Clinical Design) in Bengaluru, India

Medicines Development IDS (MD IDS) focuses on the Medicines Development Unit (MDU) business needs of the future, enabling improvements through information and technology solutions. The teams define and influence information and business strategies, design and develop solutions to achieve the strategic outcomes, and ensure reliable deployment and support of these solutions.

The Design Hub Analytics Initiative (DHAI) Support Engineer is responsible for DHAI operational support. This role leads a team of cross functional resources to maintain DHAI applications within service levels and is well versed in the business processes and the technologies behind those processes. They engage with business partners, vendors, external service providers, and IDS partners to enhance and maintain the value and stability of the DHAI application portfolio. In addition, the Support Engineer will utilize their developer skills to help resolve incidents, implement features, and help scale our automated testing/monitoring. The job tasks listed below outline the scope of the position. The application of these tasks may vary, based upon current and evolving business needs.

Service Management (70%)

  • Maintain application uptime/performance and lead support team in resolving critical incidents or problems as necessary.

  • Leads and manages system enhancements and system defects. This includes the proper use of Change Management: including understanding and determining business impact, gathering requirements from stakeholders, quantifying resource needs, and evaluating technical options

  • Engages in continuous improvement through frequent reviews of service data/metrics

  • Assists support vendor and Lilly management with the oversight of daily operational activities

  • Contribute to the successful plan and execution of the deployment of the project or system changes, which includes support for training, business adoption, implementation, and stabilization activities.

  • Produce and maintain validation documentation as required, including that of Computer Systems Quality

  • Partners on various other support activities including audits, data collection, security analysis, corrective actions, root cause analysis.

  • Proactively manage expectations and meet deadlines in a fast-moving, agile environment

  • Incorporates ITIL best proactive methodology to appropriately manage services and align terminology.

  • Maintain strong relationships with system users and business owners.

Developer and Technical Integrator (30%)

  • Assist in modifying existing code (Python, Node.js) and/or AWS services (Lambda, Glue, etc.) to resolve incidents and enable new features.

  • Evaluate features/enhancements through technical impact analysis and estimated business value to influence decision making

  • Ensure proper technical and business requirements have been appropriately defined, are consistent with best practices, and effectively communicate them to software vendors, developers, and testers.

  • Testing – Ensure system testing methods are appropriate, coordinated, and comprehensive to decrease the probability of unexpected system issues. Assist with system testing as needed.

  • Apply knowledge to ensure consistency and accuracy in the use of tools and processes supporting requirements management, code management, change management, validation, testing, and quality practices governing key work.

  • Obtain and leverage deep knowledge of business processes and technologies, to ensure solutions meet the needs and to influence future application and business direction.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 2 years of experience with software development life cycle, spanning the lifecycle from project initiation to deployment, support, and retirement

  • 5 years hands on exposure and understanding of development and analysis languages such as with AWS, Node.js, Python, and SQL

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • ITIL Foundations Certification

  • Experience with supporting applications, vendor management, and/or process management

  • Experience with tools such as GitHub, JIRA, and HP ALM

  • Experience with Agile SCRUM and DevOps

  • Experience in automated testing, automated monitoring, and CI/CD

  • Familiarity with Software Quality Assurance methods and techniques

  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent self-management skills

  • Ability to manage and lead a team of individuals, set clear goals, and have critical conversations

  • Demonstrated initiative to build relationships, learn new business processes, and identify opportunities

  • Ability to achieve results through others

  • Ability to influence peers
