Senior Associate Director

Position Description/Responsibilities

The purpose of the Senior Associate Director role is to lead a team of teams that effectively collaborates with internal partners and external suppliers to ensure delivery of insights with quality, speed, and value. This role is responsible for shaping and delivering the team vision. The role provides direction and coaching to Team Leaders and direct reports so they can successfully deliver project work. Further, the person in this role ensures team remains compliant while always striving for process improvement and innovation. The Sr. AD models behaviors consistent with Team Lilly and actively supports Diversity & Inclusion initiatives.

This position reports to the Head of Global Commercial Services, LCCI, with a dotted line to the Senior Director, Lilly Market research (based in Indianapolis).

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Oversee execution, delivery, and tracking of project work.

  • Oversees execution of both quantitative and secondary synthesis methodologies / projects for successful delivery

  • Provides inputs and oversees the creation of research analysis plans, analysis, and synthesis (including triangulation).

  • Provides inputs and oversees survey design, testing, fielding, and analysis. Ensures that all market research deliverables

  • Makes recommendations that influence decisions made by business partners on above

  • Ensures quality, speed, value, and compliance throughout the market research lifecycle

  • Defines and monitors the team’s technology strategy to incorporate technologies and automation that increase market research impact and efficiency.

  • Oversees prioritization of workload and removes barriers to success; Define and monitor capacity of team to manage high throughput and quality while balancing team well-being

  • Ensures all research adheres to company compliance policies.

  • Manages escalations and conflicts

  • Tracks data associated with projects for performance metrics

  • Supports creation and maintenance of team procedures, quality checklists, templates, and job aids to enable consistency and quality

  • Demonstrated ability to inspire team leaders and their reports to deliver superior customer insight.

  • Strategic growth and thought leadership

  • Develops a high performing team that effectively responds to an evolving business environment

  • Facilitates shared learning in Lilly market research to identify challenges and establish best practices across the team

  • Oversees a Quantitative COE that develops and perfects quant methodologies and its applications on LMR; Oversees a Synthesis COE that develops and perfects secondary research methodologies and its applications on LMR; Facilitates innovation and pilot initiatives to improve quality, speed, value, and efficiency

  • Foster a culture of collaboration within teams across market research so that quantitative & synthesis teams work closely together complementing each other

  • Networks with industry experts and external consultants as needed to develop, test, and implement new approaches and solutions for LMR at LCCI

  • Identifies ways to adopt new market research capabilities and improve existing capabilities. Design, develop and deliver various “proof of concepts & blueprints” to drive future success

  • Be a source of ideas and liaise across areas of responsibility. Bring innovation by transforming the ways to solve a problem using market research principles

  • Sits on LCCI Lead team and works with peer leaders on cross-functional priorities

  • Stakeholder Management and People Leadership Expectations

  • Manage headcount, GenOpex, and organizational targets as required

  • Lead pan-commercial initiatives, working closely with the head of global commercial services

  • Provide leadership on standardizing frameworks for communication, project management and execution across capability groups and business-focused teams

  • Drive new-hire selection and onboarding

  • Create and implement upskilling plans for LCCI team members

  • Serve as trusted career advisor, and work with Functional Leadership and HR to identify career opportunities for these team members, both systemically (career path development) and with individuals as needed

  • Develop a pipeline of market research talent and leadership, and contribute to an inclusive community of market research practitioners

  • Monitor employee engagement and team health; intervene and escalate as needed

  • Coach, develop, and empower team members at all levels of the organization consistent with the Lilly coaching framework

  • Partner with direct reports to create individual development planning/action planning consistent with both organizational priorities and career goals

  • Actively support Lilly’s Diversity & Inclusion initiatives

  • Foster an environment that welcomes diversity, builds trust, and makes it safe to thrive

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a premium institute.

  • Experience in pharma industry is required

  • 7+ years of progressively increasing breadth and depth of market research and analytics delivery design, management experience

  • Demonstrated ability to staff and lead insights teams of significant size and scope

  • Strong quantitative, research, and data analytical skills

  • Experience in managing a team of leaders

  • Exceptional communication skills – written, verbal and active listening

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment

  • Good focus on detail, accuracy, and ability to solve problems through analytical reasoning

  • Strong learning agility

  • Strong work ethic, personal motivation, and team player who is dynamic and result oriented

  • Good presentation, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to influence others.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in an international matrix environment, with ability to work across time zones

Additional skills/preferences

  • MBA or master’s or any relevant advanced degree

  • Established thought leader with demonstrated ability to think strategically and solve problems

  • Experience in social listening, competitive intelligence and descriptive analytics is added advantage

  • Understanding of current and possibilities in capabilities and technologies relevant to market research

  • Ability to see possibilities beyond current systems and process

  • Strong passion for capability development; experience working within integrated/shared work environments

  • Demonstrated ability to influence beyond organizational and BU boundaries

  • Ability to drive decisions and results

  • International business experience and willingness to travel
