Position Summary
The successful applicant will participate in and contribute to the Genetic Therapy team’s efforts as a Physiology Advisor in the Early Preclinical Development Team. With strong analytic and method development capabilities, the Physiology Advisor will optimize and expand the throughput and capabilities of the team. Ability to facilitate cross-functional collaboration, positive relationships, and matrixed and in-line leadership will enable this individual to succeed at the highest level.
Responsibilities:
Design and execute electrophysiology and / or behavioral experiments to characterize auditory phenotype and the activity / otic tolerability of product candidates in mouse and large animal models
Troubleshoot physiology laboratory acoustic systems including both hardware and software. Anticipate and resolve key technical or operational issues with potential to impact study execution and/or integrity
Actively mentor and develop junior members in the physiology team
Prioritize projects and allocate workload accordingly to ensure appropriate resourcing to meet personnel and project needs
Perform and oversee data analysis, result interpretation, and communication to internal stakeholders
Summarize integrated nonclinical study datasets for internal and external communications, including for scientific conferences, internal functional team and cross-functional meetings, and for regulatory agency submissions
Effectively collaborate with cross-functional partners to facilitate translation from discovery to development and to drive innovation
Maintain accurate documentation of experiments and projects
Basic Qualification
- PhD in life sciences (e.g., neuroscience, biology, or related disciplines)
Additional Skills/Preference
Expert knowledge in auditory neuroscience, including in the design of physiologic readouts in the inner ear and interpretation of anatomic / physiologic data
Strong forward-thinking and analytic thinking skills, with expert-level proficiency in solving scientific and / or technical problems using programming languages, programming skills in at least one language such as Python, MATLAB, R, or Igor
Experience designing, performing, and leading nonclinical in vivo studies, combined with ability to take constructive feedback
Strong attention to detail, with sufficient agility to navigate thinking from day-to-day activities to strategic program development plans
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, meet deadlines, maintain and oversee detailed and timely documentation, and prioritize work on multiple projects
Demonstrated ability to articulate, extract, and synthesize complex issues into key focus
Prior experience in AAV and / or non-viral nanomedicines
Strong inter-personal and communication skills. Proven record to collaborate and network across a wide variety of functions and work effectively with internal and external partners
Knowledge of good documentation practice (GDP) and experience with laboratory information management system (LIMS)
