The Supervisor - Utilities is responsible to ensure that the generation and distribution of the utility services is provided without interruption of service to support the Main Manufacturing Building - BB50.This includes overseeing the repair and maintenance for all Utility equipment and related systems.
Responsibilities include the Supervision of the Utility Operators/Technicians working four rotating shifts to cover 24/7 operations.
The Supervisor of the BB50 Utility Group will be responsible for no more than 12 front line operators that will support the operation, maintenance and repair of the Purified Water, Water for Injection systems, Clean Steam systems, High Pressure Steam Boiler systems, Chilled Glycol, Cooling Towers, Compressed Air, Heating/Hot Water, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), Emergency Generator, Electrical Distribution, Building Management System (BMS) and Process Controls Network.
Additional responsibilities include:
Ensuring that all operators remain in compliance with cGMPs, Environmental (EPA, …) and Safety (OSHA…) requirements, as well as within the Lilly requirements.
Adherence to the Maintenance Program by ensuring that all preventative, corrective, and general maintenance is performed and documented according to GDP (Good Documentation Practices) and ALCOA+ principles as required.
Providing support for capital projects and engineering support work orders for the Utility Department.
Position will also represent the Utilities/Facilities group in several FUME Teams (FUME Performance Team, FUME Process Team, Branchburg Wastewater Oversite Team, and others as may be determined.)
Manage for Results /Strategic Planning:
Provides leadership to the Utility Operators/Technicians with operation, trouble shooting, maintenance, and repair of the utility systems. Leads daily meetings, setting priorities, planning process execution, and assigning work.
Responsible for uninterrupted operation of Purified Water systems, Water for Injection (WFI), Clean Steam, High Pressure Steam Boilers, Chilled Glycol, Cooling Towers, Heating/Hot Water, Compressed Air, Process Gases, Industrial and Biowaste systems, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), Emergency Generators, Electrical Distribution, Building Management System (BMS) and Process Controls Network.
Maintain knowledge of the Building Management System (BMS) as required for operating equipment and troubleshooting issues as they relate to equipment and the buildings Utility Systems. Work with other Supervisors, Process teams, and staff to identify opportunities to reduce and prevent issues.
Supervise the group in completion of all Preventative and Corrective Maintenance Activities to insure they are addressed in an accurate, timely, and compliant manner.
Review/ evaluate corrective and emergency work orders for trends and institute solutions as required.
Conduct and/or support deviation investigations.
Sets priorities, monitors process execution, determine work assignments, and reprioritize work as required.
Responsible for providing support to Utilities process team, per corresponding Manufacturing Standard for Operational Excellence - 602.
Act as a liaison between Process Team and frontline staff.
Responsible for cGMP, Safety and Environmental compliance, ensuring that all Utilities equipment and procedures are maintained within validated state.
Manage and/or coordinate outside contractors work in the area and ensure contractors are properly trained and the training evidence is documented before any work is performed.
Work with Planner/Scheduler to ensure all scheduled PMs are issued and completed each month on time.
Monitor shop floor metrics on a regular basis to ensure Operational Excellence in shop floor execution (e.g., safety, environmental and quality).
Serve as author and periodic verifications of procedures as required and ensuring standard operating procedures reflect best practices.
Work within budgetary and financial objectives set by next level of management.
Communicate/escalate safety and maintenance problems, status of operations, and employee related issues in a timely manner to next management level.
Influence the decision-making process to achieve optimal and timely resolution of issues.
Manage Relationships with Key Stakeholders and Customers:
Being an engaged member of the leadership team and having appropriate presence in the floor.
Ensuring open lines of communication and clear messaging at all levels in the organization.
Staff Development and Management:
Measure and appraise operator performance against job duties, objectives, and goals.
Provide accurate and timely feedback. Recommend merit increases, promotions, hires, and terminations.
Train personnel in manufacturing process/operations following standard operating procedures and cGMP guidelines.
Mentor/coach staff as well as lead staff with a high level of honesty and integrity
- The supervisor is responsible for the effective leadership and the direct supervision of staff (i.e., hiring, training, coaching/leading, and developing) including integrating the day-to-day oversight of the process, equipment, facility, and people to safely operate the utility systems.
Bachelor of Science in a technical field preferred or combination of relevant education/experience.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience required.
A High-Pressure Boiler License is a plus.
Project management skills.
Basic understanding of construction planning and execution and can review/provide feedback to all construction plans and related documentation.
Skills in communication, conflict resolution and managing complexity with exceptional skills to effectively (clearly and accurately) communicate decisions to staff and upper management.
General knowledge of various disciplines, including electrical and mechanical and understand the contributions and functions of multiple trades allowing for optimal management of complex projects.
Experience with clean and gray utilities including water systems, steam, gases etc. is a plus.
Travel not required. Lifting required - 25lbs. Supports 7day/24 hr. operations. Required to be on call. Shift work may apply.
This role requires flexibility and ability to make critical decisions 7 days/week.
This position could require wearing clean room attire to enter manufacturing areas.
Must meet the physical requirements of the job, ability to: Bend, reach, stretch, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces. Stand for long periods.
