The Diabetes, Obesity and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA) of Eli Lilly and Company, is dedicated to the discovery of biologic, small molecule and genetic therapeutics for the treatment of diabetes, obesity and associated complications. We are seeking a skilled and motivated scientist who can help advance a highly collaborative drug discovery and development team in the Obesity research group in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will use their deep understanding of the neuronal control of energy balance to play a critical role in supporting early discovery efforts. This role will involve evaluating and experimentally validating novel targets relevant to body weight regulation, particularly targets in the central nervous system, at both in vitro and in vivo level. Key responsibilities include :

  • Provide strong scientific and technical leadership to assess new targets and generate and test hypotheses relevant for therapeutic approaches to treat metabolic diseases with an emphasis on obesity.

  • Be hands-on in the laboratory to leverage in vitro and/or in vivo systems to generate critical data supporting new and existing programs. Must be highly familiar with gold-standard models and systems used in the investigation of body weight and/or food intake regulation.

  • Function independently, work within a team-oriented lab environment and work within cross-functional project teams.

  • Provide supervision and mentoring to 1-2 scientists, performance evaluation and career development.

  • Requirement for accurate record keeping, independent data analysis, and reporting of data in written and oral formats. Will perform work in full compliance with Lilly Research Policies and complete all required training activities in the timeframe specified.

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in physiology, molecular biology, pharmacology, or a closely related field

  • Minimum 2+ years of postdoctoral training and/or industry experience

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Experience with CRISPR gene editing in cellular and/or in vivo model systems.

  • Solid understanding of using genetic data to identify candidate regulators of body weight or other relevant traits is advantageous.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and sustained tendency for collaboration. Ability to prioritize activities across multiple projects independently and effectively.

  • Strong communication skills and experience presenting data to internal and external partners and teams.

  • Demonstrate initiative and appropriate risk taking
