Within Eli Lilly and Company's Diabetes, Obesity, and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA), our focus centers on discovering biologic, small molecule, and genetic therapeutics for diabetes, obesity, and related complications. We are seeking a skilled, motivated, and versatile individual who can help build a highly collaborative, successful drug discovery and development team in the Obesity Research group in Cambridge. The successful candidate will use their strong in vivo pharmacology background and complementary laboratory skills to support discovery efforts and established pipeline projects with an emphasis on anti-obesity therapeutics. This role entails setting up critical capabilities in the laboratory setting and working with other scientists within and across departments to achieve project and department goals.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Plan and independently implement in vivo studies and in vivo assay development and optimization to support preclinical characterization and evaluation of targets/pathways that regulate energy balance.

  • Perform routine rodent handling, dosing (including but not limited to subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, intravenous, and oral routes of administration), measurement of body weight, food intake, and body mass composition, and blood and tissue collection.

  • Perform molecular and biochemical assessments on ex vivo samples.

  • Function independently, work within a team-oriented lab environment, and work within cross-functional project teams.

  • Analyze and present data in a team environment.

  • Requirement for accurate record keeping, independent data analysis, and reporting of data in written and oral formats. Will perform work in full compliance with Lilly Research Policies and complete all required training activities in the timeframe specified.

Minimum qualifications:

  • B.S. and/or M.S. in biology or a closely related field with 2+ years of industry laboratory experience.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • A background in the biology and physiology of energy balance regulation and metabolic disease.

  • Experience with stereotaxic surgery in rodents.

  • Strong experience with rodent handling, dosing, and necropsy.

  • Experience with collection and processing of tissues for RNA, protein, and histological analyses.

  • Experience with molecular biology assays including qPCR, western blot, and ELISA.

  • Proven ability to advance multiple studies simultaneously and support the implementation of new assay technologies.
