Our Neuroscience Next Generation Therapeutics team is an innovation-focused organization striving to identify, develop and apply the most cutting-edge technologies to deliver maximum benefit to our patients. Oligonucleotide-based therapies and other novel modalities represent an existing avenue of research toward development of the next generation of therapies.

The Next Generation Therapeutics group is a newly formed team with a focus on using novel therapeutic modalities to deliver medicines for chronic pain and neurodegenerative disorders. The group, based at our Lilly Seaport Innovation Center, will work with internal and external partners to identify and deliver novel therapies into patients at speed. The team is seeking experienced and inspiring scientists to join our fast-paced, interdisciplinary team as we leverage innovative RNA/oligonucleotide/gene and genomic based therapeutic modalities to enhance our portfolio.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Perform histological lab techniques including, but not limited to tissues grossing, processing, paraffin embedding, tissue sectioning, routine and special tissue staining, and image analysis.

  • Contribute to development, implementation, and execution of complex immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), and RNAscope based assays

  • Contribute to development, validation, and performing histological protein detection assays (including antibody evaluation and characterization) and other fit-for-purpose neuropathological assays to evaluate in vivo efficacy of therapeutic agents

  • Assist in troubleshoot technical challenges and provide scientific/technical input to project teams

  • Design, execute experiments and perform data analysis

  • Provide conceptual input into experimental design, integrated data analysis and communication of results to scientific teams and management

  • Provide written and verbal communication of work in lab reports and team meetings

  • Accurate recording of all practical work: completion of electronic notebook to Lilly procedure quality standards

  • General laboratory assistance, including ordering and receiving lab supplies, preparation of reagents, and maintain laboratory equipment

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations

  • Report on-site, in the lab, 5 days a week

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, biological sciences or related fields

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Track record of delivering neuropathology-based outcomes

  • Previous experience in neuroscience research and/or oligonucleotide drug discovery is strongly preferred

  • Hands-on experience in tissue sectioning (including formalin fixed paraffin embedded [FFPE] and frozen tissue sectioning), immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and in situ hybridization (including multiplexed formats using automated equipment [Leica]), light microscopy and fluorescence microscopy (including Aperio slide scanners)

  • Knowledge of relevant image analysis software packages: HALO, HALO-AI, ImageScope, GraphPad Prism etc.

  • Ability to adapt and exercise flexibility for changing platform needs, workflows and projects.

  • Ability to craft, execute and interpret experiments independently, and to advance scientific understanding.

  • Excellent communication skills and efficiency in collaborating across functional boundaries and in team environment

  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail, critical thinking, multitasking, desire to learn new techniques and contribute to cutting-edge projects in a fast-paced working environment

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Experience in processing, organizing, analyzing and visualizing data and information from disparate sources and ability to extract insight from data

  • Familiar with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and analytical software associated with methods.
