The successful candidate will have a strong research track record in synthetic organic chemistry, be analytically minded, systematic, embrace data-driven decision making, and experience in the area of polymer chemistry. They will also be analytically minded, systematic, and embrace data-driven decision making. The scientist will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design and synthesize novel lipids and/or polymers to support the development of next generation drug delivery approaches.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop methods and processes for synthesizing novel polymers for drug delivery.

  • Develop and execute appropriate assays for characterizing novel polymers; maintain analytical equipment.

  • Design and execute laboratory experiments with a proactive safety mindset.

  • Collaborate with scientists from different areas within Lilly to drive high-speed innovation

  • Transfer process technical information to internal and external partners. Provide technical oversight to external collaboration partners as needed.

  • Engage in generating creative solutions for improving existing processes and the creation of novel ones.

  • Author and maintain documentation such as laboratory notebooks and technical reports.

  • Publish/share original research externally (presentations, peer-reviewed articles, and conferences).

  • Demonstrate high learning agility regarding grasping and exploiting new scientific concepts and methods across multiple teams.

  • Embrace diversity of thought, background, and experience to deliver innovative solutions.

  • Possess strong communication (oral, written), organizational, and leadership skills.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or other similar scientific area with a focus in polymer chemistry.

  • Optional: 1 or more years of post-PhD/post training (i.e. postdoctoral) experience, particularly practical experience with polymer chemistry.

Additional Skills/Preferences :

  • Strong technical skills in organic chemistry

  • High proficiency for executing lab experiments and creating ideas for future work plans

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills and a sustained tendency for collaboration

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple activities and manage ambiguity

  • Demonstrated track record for publication and presentation of research results.

  • Demonstrated initiative and appropriate risk-taking

  • Strong technical skills to supply business value
