The Lilly New Therapeutic Modalities (NTM) team is looking for hardworking and motivated scientists to join our Innovation Hub in Cambridge, MA. We pursue ground breaking research in a highly interdisciplinary environment to enable the next generation of nucleic acid delivery technologies. These technologies will expand the impact of our existing pipeline in small-interfering RNAs (siRNA) and our emerging pipeline in additional nucleic acid modalities. We work with colleagues across NTM and therapeutic areas to discover therapies that could change the lives of our patients, their families and the world.

The successful candidate will have a strong research background in nucleic acid formulation / characterization and / or wet lab biology techniques. Additionally, they should be detailed and analytically-minded while embracing and supporting an open, communicative, and collaborative work environment. The scientist will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to perform experiments to aid characterization and development of nucleic acid delivery strategies for the next generation of genetic therapies.


  • Formulation and characterization of novel nucleic acid delivery constructs; Relevant techniques include preparation of nanoparticles (e.g., lipid nanoparticles), agarose / PAGE gel electrophoresis, DLS, SEC, HPLC

  • In vitro evaluation of these constructs including techniques such as cell culture, qPCR, Western blot, etc.

  • Optimization of protocols for characterization and evaluation of constructs

  • Visualization, summation, and presentation of results to team members

Basic Qualifications:

B.S. or M.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related fields

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a highly dynamic and collaborative environment

  • Experience in nucleic acid structure, function, formulation, and delivery

  • Experience with cell culture and molecular biology techniques

  • Familiarity with characterization techniques for nucleic acids / nucleic acid formulations

  • Familiarity with analytical assays to quantify and evaluate efficacy of nucleic acids
