Lilly Manager-HSE in Fort Dodge, Iowa

Responsibilities:

The Manager position will oversee the Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) and Security personnel. Develops, implements, and maintains all aspects of a comprehensive HSE Programs at the Fort Dodge, IA location to ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

  • Key member of Site Leadership Team driving the site’s HSE agenda and cultural improvement activities.

  • Works with site leadership team to provide an injury-free workplace and ensure environmental compliance.

  • Provides overall direction and oversight of HSE and security staff.

  • Own and maintain the HSE Management System.

  • Monitor and interpret regulatory (OSHA, EPA, ADAA, etc.) and internal Elanco standards.

  • Develop, implement and provide oversight for all new HSE programs/procedures.

  • Coaches employees and provides development opportunities for members within HSE staff.

  • Managing day-to-day safety issues and working with site personnel to support plant questions, needs and training efforts.

  • Identifies internal or external resources necessary to resolve environmental and safety issues adequately and timely.

  • Review Management of Change requests for HSE implications of those changes.

  • Responsible for making injury/illness classification in accordance with OSHA Recordkeeping Guidelines. Maintain injury/illness statistics and rates, in addition to submitting informational reports to the plant and corporate Elanco.

  • Manage HSE records in accordance with regulatory and Elanco requirements.

  • Complete and submit, where necessary, accurate and timely regulatory reports.

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with Homeland Security regulations, maintaining site Security and coordinating Security efforts with the corporate office, when needed.

  • Own and maintain Workman’s Compensation processes.

  • Participate as an integral member of HSE networks.

  • Ability to develop credibility and influence the work of others

  • Proven ability to define and execute cultural improvement activities

  • Broad working knowledge and familiarity of the HSE and Security regulations.

  • Ability to read and interpret HSE regulations and accurately translate these to plant operations and practical work practices.

  • Ability to lead and recruit a diverse team.

  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.

  • Strong decision-making and problem solving skills with little supervision.

  • Self-directed, motivated and able to gather relevant information.

  • Flexible and able to respond quickly to changing job demands and prioritize multiple responsibilities.

  • Collaborates within and outside the HSE organization, at all levels

  • Computer proficiency in Windows based programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and outlook)

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Previous experience in dealing with government regulators desired.

  • Previous experience in developing HSE procedures and practical compliance implementation and hosting external inspections highly desired.

  • Limited travel is expected to visit headquarters, other sites, developmental classes and conferences.

Physical Demand Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb stair and ladders when required.

  • Must be able to perform and review work in a manufacturing plant environment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in HSE field or related technical degree required.

  • A minimum 10 years of relevant HSE experience.
