The Senior Advisor for New Product Planning (NPP) is responsible for leading the development of product strategies for Elanco’s pre-approval products. She or he will work collaboratively with R&D team directors, R&D teams and other cross-functional colleagues to develop the strategies for the products/therapeutic areas that she or he supports. The Senior Advisor will need to be passionate about customer insights and ensuring that the product strategies, as captured in the Draft Launch Label (DLL), are fully aligned with those insights. The Senior Advisor will be responsible for projects from the Research phase up through the beginning of Full Development (pivotal trials—approximately 2-3 years prior to approval) and will be responsible for the initial brand development work required up to that point.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that Elanco Innovation, new products, will deliver value for customers

  • Integrate customer insights and other cross-functional input into Elanco’s product strategies as captured in the Draft Launch Label

  • Provide customer-insight informed feedback to R&D teams regarding options for new product characteristics (indications, forms of administration, etc.)

  • Partner with New Product Value Analysis to make sure sales forecast assumptions are aligned with the product strategies

  • Lead and facilitate the global Therapeutic Area (CA side) and Species (FA side) Lead Teams; these teams are responsible for the development and strategic management of Elanco’s TA and Species Innovation Strategies

  • Lead the early brand development work up through DP2 including the product’s value proposition for customers in relation to other options that customers will have

  • Partner with other Elanco marketing colleagues and technical marketers across the company to include a broad set of inputs into the new product’s strategy

  • Ensure a smooth handoff of brands to the Elanco companion animal and food animal marketing teams to continue brand development and preparation for launch

  • Attend monthly meetings with R&D Team Directors and teams

Basic Qualificiations:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or business discipline plus 10 years of relevant experience

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Elanco does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Experience in new product planning, marketing, or product development (R&D)

  • Master’s degree in a scientific or business discipline plus 7 years of relevant new product planning, marketing, market research or product development experience (R&D)

  • Two or more years of new product planning experience, especially in animal health or human pharmaceuticals, including the development of draft launch labels

  • Two or more years of marketing experience in brand development, launching brands and marketing strategy development and execution

  • Two or more years of experience working in a global or international role

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, planning and organization skills; Proven ability to work under pressure

  • The ability to seamlessly speak the language of and collaborate with colleagues in both the science/R&D and marketing/customer insights fields

  • Strong interpersonal skills/high level of emotional intelligence and ability to identify and collaborate with key stakeholders across functions

  • Excellent oral and verbal communication and information management skills.

  • Other Animal/Human healthcare experience

  • Six Sigma Blackbelt

Additional Information:

  • Domestic and international travel required (20%)
