Responsibilities:

We’re looking for an Enterprise Data Architect to help us stand up and implement a new suite of Data, Integration, & Analytics solutions for the entire company.

The Enterprise Data Architect will sit in the Enterprise Data and Analytics team and be accountable for three primary areas:

  • The first is providing thought leadership and owning the implementation and oversight of our data ecosystem, defining & leading how company data will be stored, consumed, integrated and handled across the enterprise by different business applications, systems, and users.

  • The second is partnering closely with our Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) team and partners in the definition and implementation of new platforms for Elanco, whilst driving the long-term strategy.

  • The third is overseeing a Managed Service Provider in the development of solutions for our business-critical data, ensuring quality development, deployment, and maintenance of our integration fabric & analytics environment.

Examples of the scope include: System integrations and API management, data movement and transformation, master & reference data stores, data catalogue, data lake, data warehousing, reporting, visualisation and analytics

Due to Elanco’s separation from Eli Lilly & Company, we’re taking this opportunity to design our data landscape from the ground up. We’ve started the design process, but this is really just the beginning of this exciting change for Elanco.

The Enterprise Data Architect will work closely with the CTO and enterprise architecture community to embed the data, analytics and integration principles across the organisation.

The role does not include people administration, however, will provide technical leadership and decision making for the organization.

The Team

The Enterprise Data and Analytics team is a new team that was created following the IPO of Elanco, separating from their parent company Eli Lilly & Company. We are looking to build a team, focused on transforming Elanco’s stewardship and value creation from our information assets. We are taking this opportunity to think differently, build for the future and leverage modern technologies, services and processes across all areas of data and analytics.

Architecture Leadership

  • Laying the foundations for our enterprise data architecture discipline in alignment with our business capability focus areas and transformation roadmaps.

  • Leading the vision for an enterprise data ecosystem design using modern technology stacks with a core focus on reusability, scalability and performance

  • Leveraging technical expertise in database management, integration, warehousing, and platform build to create a best-of-breed data and analytics ecosystem

  • Develop a modern data integration strategy extending traditional ETL to real-time data flows, message-oriented data delivery, and data virtualization.

  • Evangelizing high quality software engineering practices and patterns towards building data infrastructure and pipelines at scale.

  • Partnering with our Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) team, identifying and providing recommendations for data platforms, covering: data hosting, cloud platforms, integrations, API management, data stores and reporting.

  • Establishing architectural approaches and patterns that incorporate modernizing data governance, metadata management and data quality.

  • Advising on the design and development of new or enhancement of existing interfaces to ensure their maintainability from the perspective of API offering. Works simultaneously and closely with development teams and/or managed service vendors providing consultancy on API design and implementation of our standards

  • Partnering with the CTO and Enterprise Architecture Community, supporting the creation of architecture materials, such as a reference architecture, principles, positioning, patterns and statements

  • Identifying and positioning new data technologies that yield competitive advantage.

  • Acting as a Subject Matter expert in data platform, providing consultancy and guidance to our internal customers to enable and improve adoption.

Technical Leadership

  • Providing strategic thought leadership and decision making for enterprise team

  • Ensuring the Business IT Functions are following Enterprise D&A principles.

  • Serving on various forums to analyse projects and programs to ensure they are technically sound, will do no harm, and will deliver the expected outcomes.

  • Establishing strong partnerships across the architecture community and Information Security, helping to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.

  • Where required, deep diving key initiatives to help overcome major incidents, complex problems and/or realise opportunities.

  • Helping to embed security, privacy, data protection and quality assurance across IT.

External Engagement

  • Actively building and staying abreast of emerging technology directions related to data architecture, guiding IT on how to interpret and best leverage the emerging technologies.

  • Engaging in the community (internally and externally) across multiple channels, looking to share, educate and inspire.

Basic Qualificiations:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience designing and implementing innovative enterprise data architectures and analytics environments

  • Experience with data and analytics in cloud and/or hybrid environments

  • Experience working with public cloud architecture, specifically Microsoft Azure.

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Elanco does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position

Additional Skills/Preferences:

• Understanding of a variety of data access and analytics approaches (for example, microservices and event-based architectures).

• Extensive experience in technology project leadership, managing and advancing complex, global environments.

• Experience across data platforms, integrations and tools, including Microsoft Azure, PowerBI, Hadoop, Spark, Databricks, Kafka, Dell Boomi, Attaccama, Denodo, SAS, and JMP.

• Experience working with modern architecture methodologies (Service Orientated Architecture, API-Centric Design)

• Experience defining and executing large-scale, transformative strategic plans.

• Demonstrated influence and communication skills across all levels of IT and third-parties.

• Demonstrated strength in facilitation skills.

• Strong organizational and communications skills with multiple examples of being able to convey complex ideas in a manner that resulted in a definitive direction and result.
