Responsibilities:

This position is part of the Competitive Intelligence and Market Insights (CiMi) team. The job-holder is responsible for tracking and analyzing external forces in business areas of interest to Elanco, providing insights on the current state and future movements of these external forces, and communicating the implications of these to Elanco’s business.

Key Technical Responsibilities:

  • Work methodically and systematically to gather, analyze and report external forces in business areas of interest. External forces are market dynamics within which Elanco operates in. It includes: market players such as buyers (channel partners, customers and consumers) and suppliers; new and current competitors; environmental influencers such political, economic, social and technological.

  • Clearly document the sources, processes, methodologies, and assumptions made, and opinions, perspectives and insights based on the curated data. Highly aware of, and able to communicate uses and limitations of different data sources so that insights can be read in the right context.

  • Prepare competitor profiles, including compiling estimated product pipeline of competitors by independent research and working with R&D, Legal (patent searchers), Commercial, Investors Relations etc.

  • Create repeatable, consistent processes to generate, publish and track market and competitor moves in order to highlight the implications to Elanco.

  • Demonstrate critical thinking, persistence, intellectual curiosity & rigor. Logical, methodical & systematic.

  • Engage business leaders (mainly at director level), bring value by providing an outside-in perspective.

  • A team player who can work independently. The job-holder is expected to spend roughly half the time on research (including interviewing staff for non-confidential primary data) and the remaining time on critical thinking, generating insights, and report writing.

  • The CiMi team takes a “no agenda” approach. We clearly document the facts found, describe the assumptions made, and express our independent opinions, perspectives and insights.

  • The CiMi team earns the trust of executives not only by the quality of our work, but also our ability to maintain confidentiality. The job-holder is also required to adhere to Elanco’s policy on respecting third party confidential information.

  • The CiMi team also connects people and exchange information and perspectives to enable Elanco to compete effectively. The team is therefore required to demonstrate the highest ability to distinguish and judge what can or cannot be shared, and why, and then distribute information accordingly

Basic Qualificiations:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Animal Health or Agriculture business

  • Experience in front-line commercial roles such as sales or technical marketing/consulting.

  • Experience in competitive intelligence work.

  • Certified Competitive Intelligence Professional (CIP-I) from Academy of Competitive Intelligence is desired. If the successful candidate does not have this qualification, it is expected that s/he will complete this, at the company’s expense, at the next available course intake.

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Elanco does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Hands-on experience from front-line commercial roles such as sales or technical marketing/consulting.

  • Experience in competitive intelligence work.

  • Ability to search, use and triangulate multiple different sources and present complexity in a simple, easy to digest and actionable way.

  • Certified Competitive Intelligence Professional (CIP-I) from Academy of Competitive Intelligence is desired. If the successful candidate does not have this qualification, it is expected that s/he will complete this, at the company’s expense, at the next available course intake.

  • Background and experience in Food Animal (Swine, Poultry, Cattle) businesses preferred.

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, planning and organization skills; Ability to think from different perspectives.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Good numeracy command.

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to use the right tool for the right job, and communicate data, information, and the “so what” succinctly.

  • Economics, psychology, social sciences or governmental intelligence background is an advantage
