Lilly Food Animal R&D Project Manager in Greenfield, Indiana



This role is responsible for conducting, facilitating and ensuring rigor in all project management activities of Global Food Animal (FA) R&D projects. The individual in this role will interface with global FA R&D staff and work closely with team members to ensure that robust project plans are designed and risks are proactively identified and monitored.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate quality timeline planning sessions with product development teams to define the overall drug development progression strategy. Including generation of a detailed task plan to achieve critical project milestones.

  • In collaboration with the team Director and Project Management / Operations Leader, drive execution of global project deliverables for FA projects. Through communication and monitoring of project schedule, cost, and performance risks utilizing appropriate project management tools (e.g. MS Project, Planisware, Project Management principles, and risk management tools).

  • Identify, communicate and monitor assigned projects’ critical path.

  • Coordinate and facilitate project meeting logistics and provision of timely meeting agendas and minutes.

  • Proactively communicate project status, issues and risks to project stakeholders and escalate issues when appropriate.

  • Manage the tracking and reporting of key project success measures for scorecards as well as project metrics to support business planning cycles and strategic initiatives.

  • Implement project management best practices and processes.

  • Partner with Finance and the development teams to manage project budgets.

  • Consult with development teams to understand budget variances.

  • Facilitate assessment of project risks, identification of mitigation and contingency planning.

  • Liaise across Project Management R&D groups to identify, share, and incorporate best practices into future iterations of processes, tools, training, or guidance.

  • Lead and participate in retrospective project/process review meetings (i.e. after action reviews) to identify issues and opportunities to capture and implement learning. Assure that shared learning is made available.

  • In partnership with Sr. Director and Food Animal Portfolio Mgmt and Strategy Leader, conduct portfolio analysis to make pipeline decisions

  • Experience in pharmaceutical R&D or regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to influence others without direct authority.

  • Ability to work across functional and geographical boundaries in order to develop strategies and plans, and deliver results.

  • Portfolio Management experience

  • Strong communication skills; able to communicate clearly and succinctly with team members and leadership.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with project management tools and processes (e.g. management of integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk and procurement as defined by Project Management Body of Knowledge).

  • Strong self-management and organizational skills; able to manage workload, set personal and team priorities and adjust as needed.

  • Effective interpersonal and team building skills; proven ability to develop effective teams with diverse interpersonal styles; able to deliver effective coaching and feedback.

  • Able to anticipate change, show flexibility, adjust quickly and effectively to alterations in business priority or market changes

  • Strong computer skills; skilled at using Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Microsoft Project

  • Knowledge of IT tools (e.g. Planisware, Tableau, Collaboration Sites), agile learner of new IT tools/ systems

  • Understanding of veterinary drug development processes (pharmaceuticals and/or vaccines) and the interdependencies of various tasks that require coordination among teams, functional groups and third parties.

  • Six Sigma Black Belt

  • PMP or CAMP not required but preferred
