Synthetic Molecule Design and Development (SMDD) has an exciting opportunity for a bioanalytical mass spectrometry scientist to join our interdisciplinary team of analytical chemists, chemical engineers, and synthetic chemists. You will help deliver innovative technical solutions, enabling deeper understanding of processes and products across our diverse portfolio. Top candidates for this position will possess:
Strong research track record in biological mass spectrometry including oligonucleotides and peptides.
Demonstrate high learning agility by identifying and exploiting new scientific concepts, strong technical problem-solving skills, and be self-motivated to achieve quality results in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate will have proficiency in multiple modes and applications of mass spectrometry and chromatographic separation techniques (MS and MS n , UHPLC). Familiarity of operation, control, and data analysis software across multiple instrument platforms (Thermo, Agilent, SCIEX, Waters). Strong technical problem-solving ability and have an internal motivation to work independently and achieve efficient, quality results in a fast-paced environment.
Engage with scientists in Eli Lilly’s Development and Manufacturing organizations to develop a deep understanding of new initiatives and improve existing scientific processes.
Leverage high-resolution mass spectrometry techniques and methodologies to characterize the structures and modifications of medium molecule therapeutics to enable product and process development.
Identify ground-breaking analytical technologies as well as trends in analytical and synthetic chemistry, chemical engineering, and continuous manufacturing.
Strong problem-solving skills and self-motivated to contribute across multiple projects.
Strong written and verbal communication to speak to both technical and business-related implications of your work.
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemistry with an emphasis on mass spectrometry.
Hands-on experience with high-resolution mass spectrometry in the characterization of synthetic oligonucleotides and peptides.
Expertise in design of experiments, acquiring, interpreting, and processing mass spectrometry data manually and through commercial and/or custom software programs.
Working knowledge of MS software tools to enable automated data analysis and streamline MS workflows.
Reversed phase chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, chiral chromatography.
Ability to learn and apply technical knowledge to meet changing project needs.
Flexibility and ability to prioritize work to meet interpersonal and scientific goals.
Possible exposure to chemicals, allergens, and loud noises.
Occasional travel may be required.
