Responsibilities:

The Agile/DevOps/Program Manager Role will be a hands-on coordinator driving the Lilly Agile/DevOps Transformation program by managing the Agile/DevOps Transformation effort at scale, owning, and delivering on tactical execution plans. You will interface throughout the Information and Digital Solutions (IDS) enterprise with area transformational leaders and initiatives within Agile, DevOps, and Automation and Engineering Practices, as you guide teams transitioning to an Agile/DevOps development model. You will also be requested to perform Program Management duties to execute on specific initiatives to drive delivery and consistency of execution. For high priority initiatives, you may be assigned to perform Scrum Master and/or Project Management duties as well.

The Agile/DevOps/Program Manager role resides within the IDS Project Management Services organization (IDS PMO) and is responsible for coordinating the execution of the assigned Agile portfolio. IDS Project Management Services provide significant insights; flexible and repeatable processes, standards, and tools; Waterfall/Critical Chain and Jira/Confluence services to our IDS and Business partners that are fit for purpose. The Agile/DevOps/Program Manager role will also be responsible for driving continuous improvement within the overall Project Management practice.

This position is a global position and reports to the IDS Manager – Project Management Services based out of Indianapolis, Indiana USA.

Limited travel and flexibility.

  • Lead the adoption/transformation for an enterprise Agile/DevOps implementation.

  • Coach the enterprise in the transformation from a “Project” mindset to a “Product” mindset.

  • Continue to develop our Agile/DevOps transformation strategy and drive the supporting execution plan supporting.

  • Hands-on leadership and experience implementing a scaled agile operating model inclusive of value stream orientation.

  • Understands how to develop and implement an inclusive Agile/DevOps strategy covering technology, HR, communication, recognition, tools, metrics, and change management.

  • Present and evangelize the Lilly IDS methodology to all leadership levels throughout the organization.

  • Lead the Agile coaching practice and transformation team efforts.

  • Must drive an Agile operating model that reflects and considers our existing (i.e. Critical Chain/Waterfall) and future operating environment.

  • Work closely with key executive leaders and practitioners to gain full alignment.

  • Provide leadership and direction to delivery of adopting agile delivery practices.

  • Contribute to the organization’s transformation efforts to drive an agility mindset.

  • Establish, evaluate, and report relevant agile metrics to continually drive high quality delivery.

  • Develop, coach, and mentor Lilly employees and consultants to advance their skills in the Agile/DevOps methodology.

  • Exhibit thought leadership across Lilly in all facets of the Agile/DevOps methodology through speaking engagements, regular communicat­ion and other activities that will encourage adoption.

  • Keep abreast of new and evolving techniques, methods, and strategies in delivery methodologies.

  • Clearly define effective and efficient project management practices to be utilized by the program, and the processes that focus on integrating and managing program activity to achieve program goals.

  • Articulate the value of the program and ensure alignment between business partners and IDS teams to ensure program strategy is understood by key stakeholders.

  • Standards - Participate in the continuous development, improvement, verification, and enforcement of policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines to ensure efficient and effective operational practices.

  • Execution - Execute the workstream portfolio to meet business and IT commitments under significant constraints (resource, organizational, financial, etc.).

  • Manage programs to help tell “the story” through value articulation and metrics reporting.

  • Account/Program Management – Develop and enhance Account Relationships, Program Execution, Program Financials, Project(s) Oversight for the assigned workstream.

  • Oversight – Provide general oversight/mentoring of Non-Lilly Project Managers within the assigned workstream.

  • Cross-Program Alignment – Look at other Programs/Projects broadly and pro-actively to understand, communicate, and act on dependencies.

  • Act as an escalation point for assigned workstream and manage multiple, conflicting priorities.

  • Responsible for resourcing outsourced Scrum Masters/Agile Coaches through our external service provider(s) in the assigned workstream.

  • Deliver on practice improvements within the Project Management practice.

  • Clearly define effective and efficient large, multi-year program management practices to be utilized by the teams, and the processes that focus on integrating and managing program activity to achieve program goals.

  • Optimize processes for scope, time, cost, and quality and develop action plans to achieve objectives.

  • Articulate the value of the program and ensure alignment between business partners, IT teams, and multi-vendors to ensure program strategy is understood by key stakeholders.

  • People Development – Coach, mentor, share, and train PMs on assigned program and projects to ensure overall execution performance controls are implemented. Manage programs to help tell “the story” through value articulation and metrics reporting.

  • Account/Program Management – Develop and enhance Account Relationships, Program Execution, Program Financials, Project(s) Oversight for the assigned workstream.

  • Oversight – Provide general oversight/mentoring of Non-Lilly Project Managers within the assigned workstream.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (High School Degree/GED with 8+ years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)

  • 5+ years’ experience leading programs and projects as an Agile Implementation Coach and DevOps lead

  • 3-5 years’ experience leading programs and projects as a Program Manager

  • 5+ years of experience leading transformational change initiatives and enterprise change management, including 5+ years of resource management, strategy development and ability to influence all management levels

  • 5+ years proven track record in successfully managing agile implementations or large-scale transformational initiatives. Experience in Agile Coaching and Mentoring, Project Management or Project Development. Understanding the fundamentals of iterative and incremental development.

  • Experience with Agile practices (SAFe, Agile, Lean, Scrum, Kanban, etc.)

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Maintain Scaled Agile Framework SPC certification

  • Ability to work effectively collaborate across the organization at all levels to remove barriers to the adoption of Agile/DevOps

  • Effective communications skills (both written and verbal) and ability to understand needs and influence multiple work groups and senior levels of leadership, both Technical and Managerial.

  • Ability to listen, understand, and anticipate the customers’ needs as a critical component of the Agile/DevOps methodology

  • Must be a leader that has practical hands-on delivery experience and possesses the ability to think strategically while owning and delivering on tactical execution plans.

  • Familiarity with other technical transformational initiatives such as DevOps, Lean Portfolio Management and Engineering Practices.

  • Proven success delivering, supporting, influencing, and guiding waterfall-based teams as they transition to an Agile development model.

  • PMP Certified

  • SCRUM Certification(s)

  • SAFe Certification(s)

  • ICAgile Certification(s)

  • Demonstrated management and leadership

  • Demonstrated track record of successful execution of complex enterprise Agile/DevOps implementations initiatives

  • Prior medical and/or scientific experience or background is highly preferable for this position

  • Experience successfully driving and leading an enterprise Agile Transformation effort at scale in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Large multi-year Program Management experience

  • Multi-vendor and Supplier Management experience

  • Demonstrated management and leadership of multiple large-scale programs

  • Demonstrated track record of successful execution of complex Programs and initiatives

  • Understanding of Critical Chain
