The Research Information and Digital Solutions organization (Research IDS) delivers innovative technical and analytical solutions to aid, accelerate, and support work done across the Lilly Research Laboratories and beyond. This role is targeted for someone who is excited to learn cutting edge technology, and motivated to push the boundaries of what is possible in pursuit of elevating developer experience, application deployment, and cloud strategy. This position will report to the Associate Director of Research IDS Technology & Platforms and will partner with individuals across the Research IDS organization to deliver and enable critical cloud platform functionalities.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives:

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert (SME) for the Research IDS Cloud Applications and Technologies as a Service (CATS) platform. This platform is the foundational cloud hosting environment for Research applications using the latest cloud deployment technologies/methodologies including Kubernetes, AWS EKS Fargate, Flux/Git Ops, Prometheus, GitHub Actions, Crossplane, Prisma Cloud, etc

  • Partner with application developers across RIDS to architect, secure, and monitor costs for their applications using modern cloud technologies / techniques on the CATS platform

  • Collaborate with the Research architects & architecture community to expand and improve the CATS platform as it supports Research apps & data science work

  • Work with cloud account support to influence the direction of AWS services relevant to Research cloud workloads

  • Contribute where appropriate to new & existing open-source projects

  • Architect cloud applications using modern architecture principles such as micro-service design

  • Drive workable, simple (where possible) solutions with a re-use methodology to promote future reduced “time-to-value”

  • Ensure timely escalation and resolutions of issues (project / operations) with appropriate follow through and team engagement

Basic Requirements & Experience Expectations:

  • 5+ years development experience in at least one common application development language (Python, Java, NodeJs, Golang, etc.)

  • 5+ years working with Git, specifically working in a team which adopts modern Git practices

  • 5+ years working in a software development team following modern software development practices (Testing, Code Reviews, Code Coherence, use of a multitude of frameworks/libs)

  • Experience in deploying complex applications in Kubernetes in a production “lights out” fully automated system

  • Strong understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS) with relevant experience designing and implementing complex solutions

  • Experience with deploying automation infrastructure by utilizing AWS Cloud Formation techniques

  • Experience in DevSecOps (deploying applications with high automation & security as a first-class feature of the deployment pipeline)

  • Experience in translating business requirements to recommended solutions

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Demonstrated versatility in technical leadership, project management, and systems/software development and implementation

  • Experience working with teams across organizational and geographic boundaries and multiple levels within the organization

  • Strong teamwork, self-management, problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Experience in multiple common languages

  • Experience in Azure/GCP clouds
