In Research Information and Digital Solutions (R-IDS), we develop and integrate solutions to meet the automation and analysis needs of our Lilly Research Lab (LRL) scientists. These solutions must be robust, easy to maintain, and delivered with speed. The R-IDS developer will work on projects across LRL, building new capabilities and optimizing current capabilities. This role will combine a variety of skills with a lot of focus on next generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis pipelines. As a developer in RIDS, you will work on interesting projects helping scientists discover and engineer medicines that will change lives of people all over the world. R-IDS is a great place to update and expand your skillset while doing meaningful and impactful work.

Responsibilities:

  • Using agile methodology, you will work with a team to develop and deploy tools for scientific data analysis across multiple therapeutic areas.

  • Build relationships with LRL colleagues by listening, understanding their needs, presenting ideas, and giving/receiving honest feedback.

  • Present projects and ideas to leadership within IDS and LRL.

  • Help identify and resolve complex technical problems for LRL scientists and other team members.

  • Design, develop, and deploy new data pipelines in the cloud.

  • Use software engineering best practices (comprehensive testing, version control, documentation, etc.).

  • Help evaluate vendor services/technologies that are being used or are being considered by the group.

  • Understand technical decisions being made by the group or the business and anticipate any issues that may arise from those decisions.

  • Work with IT quality representative to drive toward a high degree of quality, compliance and regulatory standards in the delivery of services and projects and ensure compliance with data security standards for all appropriate systems

  • Ensure completion of periodic reviews, access roster reviews, personal information and confidential information assessments, and ensure appropriate controls are in place

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Informatics, Computer Science, or Science related discipline.

  • Experience with data management, data workflows, and software development.

Additional Preferences:

  • 3+ years of experience or master's degree in Informatics, Computer Science, or Science related discipline.

  • Knowledge of main programming languages used in life sciences (Python, R, SQL, etc.)

  • Experience building analysis pipelines using WDL.

  • Experience with modern workflow management systems (Cromwell, DNAnexus Titan)

  • Exposure to Amazon Web Services and/or Azure Cloud technology

  • Basic understanding of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data and technologies.

  • Ability to learn and adapt as the science/technology needs change.

  • Experience leading project teams with an Agile methodology.

  • Experience with software containerization using Docker.

  • Experience with Git (version control, CI/CD, container registration)

  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively on a diverse team with different viewpoints.

  • Demonstrated teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills.
