Responsibilities:

Throughout the IP Department we believe people are fundamental to success and our ability to deliver the best IP for Lilly. This is underpinned by the performance and capabilities of our employees. We are adding this position to our team to respond to competitive growth and increased complexity and volume across Lilly’s world-class IP assets. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing best-in-class processes and workflows, with a heavy emphasis on IP protection/quality and risk mitigation measures, supporting Global IP team initiatives, special projects, and workflow management. This role will interface closely with IP attorneys and other paraprofessionals, Legal Operations, Information & Digital Solutions and senior IP and Legal team leadership, with the goal of ensuring an integrated strategy to support the IP Legal organization. Strong business partnering, collaboration and organizational skills are required, as is the ability to work with credibility as an advocate for Legal across all levels of the organization.

  • This role will be responsible for development and implementation of departmental analytics and delivery of KPIs across systems, projects, and business units.

  • Support System Administrators in the stand-up, maintenance, and optimization of various systems.

  • Responsible for developing and delivering solutions through adoption of various process optimizations and automations across a variety of systems, including Anaqua, AcclaimIP, and PatBase, based upon needs of the organization.

  • Propose and implement KPIs and dashboards to support budgetary concerns, departmental metrics, workload distribution, and the like.

  • Develop analytics and related strategies and capabilities to address portfolio needs.

  • Partner with stakeholders to design, develop and deliver efficiency gains across the department.

  • Partner with technical paralegal staff to create, monitor and capture third party IP watches and FTO processes.

  • Influence and contribute to the strategy and implementation of IP Procurement’s transformation vision, including key LRL deliverables and key internal deliverables. Partner with senior management, impacted divisions, and internal stakeholders to ensure legal issues are identified and appropriate resolutions are developed and delivered.

  • Identify opportunities to improve/create critical process improvements through partner with external experts and consultants, develop implementation strategy, align strategy with senior leadership, and deploy to the IP department.

  • Maintain and support procurement strategic priorities, in partnership with PPLT.

  • Leverage data analytics based upon industry best practices to inform and support decision-making and improvement initiatives.

  • Facilitate an environment of shared learning, process improvement, efficiency and wellness throughout the organization.

Basic Requirements:

  • Greater than 5 years of data analytics and reporting experience

  • Greater than five years of Anaqua system administration experience.

  • Greater than five years of leadership experience required within patent and/or trademark operations, particularly with proven experience in driving change through the use of analytics, system optimization, and process improvements.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in the hard sciences that together with prior work experience, provides essential background for effective communication with scientists and management about scientific and intellectual property aspects of discovery, development, and commercialization.

  • Experience supporting patent and trademark practitioners with the procurement, maintenance and wind-down of IP assets.

  • Experience working with legal in the development and delivery of key IP solutions.
