Lilly Neuroscience is seeking a dedicated scientist to join Neurobiologicals Group to facilitate its mission of discovering novel medicines for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other related neurodegenerative conditions. You will contribute to research focused on developing therapeutics in close collaboration with other Neurodegeneration laboratories as well as Lilly Genetic Medicines, Chemistry and Biotherapeutic engineering divisions. A substantial focus of the role will be the supporting development and implementation of in vitro/in vivo blood brain barrier (BBB) receptor-mediated transport models for siRNA based therapeutics. Do you possess hands-on laboratory and in-vivo experience, a keen interest to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie non-invasive drug delivery to the CNS, and have an outstanding attention to scientific detail? This role would be a great fit.

Key Objectives:

  • Contribute to development of mammalian cell culture assays with cell lines and primary neurons.

  • Design and develop assays.

  • Analyze changes in gene and protein expression from cell cultures and tissues by RT-qPCR, ELISA and fluorescence imaging.

  • Perform high throughput imaging and data analysis of cell cultures and brain tissue sections.

  • Record, analyze and communicate scientific data with high attention to detail.

  • Ability to thrive in a high productivity environment by continually implementing new ways to improve throughput.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or Master's Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular and cellular biology, Neuroscience, or a related field

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Robust assay development experience.

  • Attention to detail to develop consistent and reproducible mammalian cell culture assays using cell lines and primary neurons

  • Hands on experience with RT-qPCR or ELISA assays and/or experience with assay automation using a liquid handler.

  • Experience in utilizing high content imaging equipment (e.g. Cytation 5, Opera, Operetta) and developing protocols and analyzing images to generate study reports and figures.

  • Problem-solving skills and creativity with a willingness to search and review the scientific literature independently.

  • Have accurate and timely record keeping and strong data analysis and organizational skills.

  • Able to clearly communicate data and work independently in order design and troubleshoot experiments.

  • Experience with in vitro assay development and drug discovery in industry.
