In a company-wide effort to speed innovation to patients, Corporate Business Development (CBD) intends to leverage emerging external innovation to close future pipeline gaps and generate a steady, sustainable flow of innovation. The Catalyze360 team, an organization within Corporate Business Development, works to accelerate external science by leveraging Lilly’s Research & Development capabilities, network, and expertise, in addition to accelerating Lilly’s pipeline.


The Business Development Strategist will join our dynamic team at Lilly Catalyze360 to build, execute, and scale initiatives aligned with our business development strategies. We are seeking a creative problem solver who thrives in a diverse and complex environment, as the role will evolve with the growth of the business.


Problem Solving:

  • Collaborate with the team to implement solutions to priority business challenges

  • Provide expertise to identify, prevent, and solve complex problems with significant impact on Lilly’s business and the business of our external business partners.

  • Leverage exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills to support the achievement of the group's goals

  • Continuously seek ways to optimize processes and increase efficiency

Partnership Management:

  • Actively participate in deal teams for ongoing transactions, including in-licensing, out-licensing, collaborations, direct equity, and venture capital agreements.

  • Create necessary governance documents to seek alignment and leadership support.

  • Work closely with the Alliance Management lead to support the implementation of contracts associated with the Catalyze360 portfolio of partnerships.

  • Support business operations for deal discussions with external partners, including key BD conferences.

Business Management and Analytics:

  • Provide expertise to identify, prevent, and solve complex problems with significant impact on Lilly’s business and the business of our external business partners.

  • Conduct research and analysis on areas of potential growth, industry trends and competitor activities.

  • Ensure appropriate documentation storage and liaise with BD operations to maintain the integrity and functionality of the team’s file storage and sharing systems.

  • Identify and analyze meaningful metrics to enable evaluation of organizational tracking toward becoming the partner of choice at scale.


  • Interface with the Catalyze360 team’s internal and external networks.

  • Effectively communicate the ExploR&D team’s strategy to external and internal stakeholders.

  • Create and manage resources approved for external use.


  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 5+ years of pharma or biotech business development experience
