Lilly Associate/Sr. Associate/Manager - Image Production & Licensing in Indianapolis, Indiana

Organization Overview:

As part of Lilly Marketing Studios (LMS), the Associate – Image Production and Licensing is responsible for 1) consulting with the Creative Services Creative Lead and other team members to acquire art and images used in print and digital tactics and 2) managing usage rights (i.e., copyrights and licensing) for all imagery for Lilly USA and Lilly Global Brand Team tactics produced Lilly Marketing Studios (Lilly’s internal creative/production team) or transitioned from agencies 3) serving as a Subject Matter Expert for usage rights/copyright and managing all other licensing needs for software, fonts, etc. for Lilly Marketing Studios. The Associate – Image Production and Licensing supports Marketing Associates’ efforts to confirm usage rights remain effective for the duration of tactic lifecycles and update them as needed.

Responsibilities:

Image Acquisition and Licensing

  • Counsels on all aspects of image acquisition or creation

  • Embraces and follows brand creative criteria and quality procedures

  • Leads licensing documentation for freelance suppliers for original art and images

  • Secures stock art/photography from providers such as Shutterstock and Getty Images

  • Proactively contributes to efforts to solve creative problems

  • Recognizes and addresses important details with accuracy and efficiency

Copyright Management

  • Actively handles and protects Lilly’s usage rights; i.e., right to use photography, art, and models in its promotional/advertising materials

  • Understands the terms for usage rights (e.g., may be “unrestricted” or limited by one or more conditions such as time, language, consent, geographical area, or communication channel) and ensure proper compliance with terms

  • Reviews all rights clearance and legal paperwork submitted for projects, including image licensing and talent/location/materials agreements, ensuring all terms are cleared and deals are accurately implemented and contain all required rights

  • Keeps updated on changes within IP law, flagging any inconsistencies and/or concerns

  • Negotiates favorable rates and secures rights to third party materials as needed

  • Finalizes, records, and tracks rights information and all aspects related to licensing, including but not limited to drafting licenses and payment processing

Vendor Management and Special Projects

  • Serves as a SME for key projects pertaining to usage rights and copyright

  • Handles suppliers related to usage rights, fonts, and other copyright/usage rights related work

  • Coordinates efforts across business units and Global Brand Teams to standardize the usage rights documentation process

  • Maintains licensing of fonts and software required for LMS

  • Assist with creative material development as needed

Basic Requirements:

  • BA/BS, Masters or MBA in communications, design, publishing, business or similar area of focus

  • 3+ years of experience within a photo/media research or usage rights department

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Competence with standard IT tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, internet research, Adobe Creative Suite)

  • Competence on MAC Platform and associated software

  • Exemplify professional experiences working with diverse teams, populations or cultures

  • 1+ years creative design experience

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, problem solving skills, ability to handle ambiguity, and ability to work quickly and effectively with tight deadlines

  • High level of motivation and a strong desire to find creative solutions to challenging situations

  • Demonstrated ability to follow business rules and policies in a constructive but focused manner and to apply all Quality and Compliance policies and procedures

  • Makes sound, timely decisions about changes to work in progress

  • Solid understanding of legal concepts regarding usage rights/licensing, including US copyright issues and law

  • Expertise in licensing for all types of media platforms with ability to negotiate licenses and permissions with copyright owners

  • Demonstrated success in producing image/art solutions that leverage customer insights, effectively deliver on project requirements, and align to overall brand strategy

  • Communicates effectively (in writing and verbally) with internal customers, team members, and supplier partners

  • Works well independently and with a team
