Organization Overview

Lilly is at a critical juncture as we tool up to realize the potential of our product pipeline. We are building new device manufacturing capabilities around the world, and are leveraging innovative assembly technologies including robotics, data analytics, cloud-based systems, and cybersecurity tools. Additionally, we are recapitalizing older assets, and bringing the operational philosophies in line with current technologies. Lilly places a high value on fully automated manufacturing processes, as the quality and operational benefits are baseline expectations of new process design.

The Automation Engineer - Network Architecture role will be part of Indianapolis Device Manufacturing (IDM) organization. The role will require you to have experience working with integrated automation manufacturing systems and Information Technology to develop, implement, and troubleshoot. The Automation Engineer – Network Architecture role is primarily responsible for the configuration of historian, development of historian reports and data analytics for reliable operation of automation manufacturing processes. You will be driving appropriate change control, preparing/adhering project schedules, programming process control systems, network architecture, and cloud-based systems. The position requires a high learning agility and experience in one or more process automation systems with a strong focus on network architecture, data analytics, cloud-based tools, cyber-security, and their supporting platforms and systems.

Other duties include interfacing with Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO), Engineering and Manufacturing personnel as required to coordinate and lead projects activities, IDM IT, prepare and review Operational SOP’s and requirement specifications and other necessary documentation, represent automation group in several process team meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely and continually look for improvements to both people and equipment safety.

  • Provide leadership in vulnerability risk assessments and communicating to contract manufacturing sites.

  • Deliver and support of Industrial Control Systems (ICS)

  • Deliver and support OSI PI Data Historian, data analytics, and reporting by problem-solving issues.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Manage, support, and optimize Information Technology/Operational Technology (IT/OT) system integration.

  • Bring external and innovation focus, combined with a strong understanding of business objectives, manufacturing and quality processes and technologies, IT/Automation manufacturing systems, Infrastructure and cyber-security, to define the future state vision for manufacturing.

  • Provide leadership and collaborate across multiple cultures

  • Deliver automation manufacturing systems in a manufacturing environment.

  • Support and evaluate industry best practices and applies them as appropriate, keeping management apprised of trends and emerging technologies.

  • Support existing systems and data management process.

Basic Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or a related science or Information Technology field

• 3 years experience in Automation/ICS Engineering, or a related Information Technology field

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Experience in pharma or GMP industry

  • Experience in cyber-security

  • Knowledge in network architecture and IT platforms.

  • Experience working with validated systems

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and natural curiosity

  • Successful track record building and maintaining business relationships internal and external to Lilly.

  • Knowledge of risk management processes (e.g., methods for assessing and mitigating risk).

  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and ethics as they relate to cloud-based cyber-security and privacy.

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual environments

Additional Information

• Domestic and International Travel 5-10%

• Monday through Friday Day Shift 8:00am - 4:30pm with some allowance for flex time
