The Automation Engineer – OSI PI and Data Integration will enable information and data flow between Manufacturing Science, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations by leveraging IT and Process Automation Technologies. This role will support innovation evaluation and application for Manufacturing Process Automation and IT Systems with a focus on data historians (OSI PI), OT data integration, advanced analytics, data integrity, and process optimization.

This role is a mid-level engineering role which requires a 4-year engineering degree, preferably in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related science field. The position requires high learning agility and an interest and/or background in control programming, data historians (and databases), and data integration. There is an expectation of travel to other Lilly international locations generally not exceeding 10-20%.
The primary focus of the role will be to work with our Process Automation and IT systems to integrate data supporting a number of key corporate initiatives. These systems include (but not limited too) process automation platforms, HMI/SCADA, Data Historians (OSI PI), and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). A high level of experience in automation architecture and technology trends is desired, with additional expertise needed in the primary areas of process automation and control: safety systems, process control, motion control, and batch control. This role will serve as the corporate Subject Matter Expert for the OSI PI Platform for the Automation Engineering function at Lilly.
Global Process Automation & Control Engineering is part of the Lilly Corporate Engineering Tech Center (ETC). The ETC is a technical resource for training, standards, project implementation, and the center of engineering excellence for the corporation, providing deeply technical resources to solve the most intractable technical problems in manufacturing.

Provide subject matter expertise on OSI PI Data Historian platform for automation engineering
Expertise with Automation Technologies – Lead the corporation’s efforts to better engineer automation projects on all platforms.
Data Integration –Develop robust and innovative solutions enabling our manufacturing engineers to utilize data to drive improvement decisions, identify issues, and utilize advanced analytics.
Corporate Initiatives – support key corporate initiatives with robust data integration strategies enabling connectivity of Lilly platforms. This includes major Capital Delivery and partnerships between Lilly Engineering and IT.
Optimization and Control – Increase the benefits of automation and control solutions while driving life-cycle costs down. Apply automation solutions to meet site, network, and business unit objectives for productivity, quality, and cost. Assist sites globally with technical planning, technology assessments, process control troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
Lead design, development, and deployment of technical and application solutions to meet business requirements across an IT/Automation portfolio that are cost effective and sustainable
Drive implementation and use of technology governance processes.
Bring external and innovation focus, combined with a strong understanding of business objectives, manufacturing and quality processes and technologies, IT/Automation applications and Infrastructure, to define the future state vision for manufacturing.
Serve as a key thought leader across Corporate Process Automation and MQ IT to maximize value through the best leveraging of information technology. Partner with IT Solution Architects, Business Process Architects, Global Infrastructure Team and external resources and key customers to identify business problems, opportunities and processes to set the strategic Process Automation Integration direction to meet business needs
Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering or a related science field.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in process automation (OT) engineering and data integration (e.g. data historians, data analytics, visualization, MES integration, enterprise level applications, and data integrity)
Experience with OSI PI Data Historian
Knowledge of Data Integration, Databases, Enterprise Systems, Process Automation Systems (PLC and DCS), and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
Core knowledge related to ISE S95 and S88 principles and IT/Automation integration
Ability to work well with different cultures
Experience in pharma or GMP industry
Experience working with validated systems
Expertise in Lilly’s preferred platforms, including Rockwell Automation, Emerson DeltaV, PMX, and Syncade
Monday through Friday Day Shift of 7:30am-4:30pm with some allowance for flex time.
Location: Indianapolis, IN or site hosted role
Travel: Domestic and International travel required (15%)
