Lilly Neuroscience is seeking a dedicated scientist to join Neuroscience Discovery/Neurodegeneration Group to facilitate its mission of discovering novel medicines for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other related neurodegenerative conditions. You will contribute to research focused on developing therapeutics in close collaboration with other Neurodegeneration laboratories as well as Lilly’s chemistry and biotherapeutic engineering divisions. A substantial focus of the role will be the supporting development and implementation of in vitro/in vivo blood brain barrier (BBB) receptor-mediated transport models for protein and oligonucleotide based therapeutics. Do you possess hands-on laboratory experience, a keen interest to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie non-invasive drug delivery to the CNS, and have an outstanding attention to scientific detail? This role would be a great fit.

Key Objectives:

  • Develop primary neuron and primary microglia cell culture assays to understand receptor targeted drug efficacies in vitro and ex vivo.

  • Routinely perform RT-qPCR and ELISA assays to assess PKPD target engagement and efficacy of systemically administered antibody drug/siRNA conjugates in plasma and in tissues.

  • Perform high throughput imaging and analysis of cell cultures to assess drug target engagement

  • Analyze changes in gene and protein expression from cell cultures, brain and peripheral tissues by RT-qPCR, ELISA

  • Develop and troubleshoot assays independently, record, analyze and communicate scientific data.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Neuroscience or a related field.

  • 5+ years' work experience with routine assay development.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Experience in harvesting and growing primary neurons, primary microglia or culturing and differentiating iPSC neurons to develop/perform/problem solve mammalian cell culture functional assays.

  • Robust experience in developing ELISA assays independently

  • Experience in utilizing high content imaging equipment (e.g. Cytation 5, Opera, Operetta) to image cell cultures and generating study reports.

  • Experience in using liquid handlers to automate RT-qPCR and ELISA assays.

  • Problem-solving skills and creativity with a willingness to search and review the scientific literature independently.

  • Have accurate and timely record keeping and strong data analysis and organizational skills.

  • Able to clearly communicate data and work independently in order craft and troubleshoot experiments.

  • Experience in the area of Neurodegenerative disease

  • Experience with in vitro and in vivo assay development for drug discovery in industry.
