We are the Discovery and Translational Immunology team, and we are looking for a hardworking associate scientist with experience in laboratory based immunological methods to join our team. Our mission is to identify mechanism-relevant pharmacodynamic biomarkers for assets in Lilly’s immunology pipeline and develop drug tailoring hypotheses in various autoimmune diseases that can be assessed in clinical trials. The identification of translational biomarker strategies will use samples from both preclinical models and human-derived sources.

The position offers an outstanding opportunity to impact the tailoring of Lilly’s autoimmune therapies to the most suitable patients based on novel biomarkers. The successful candidate needs to have hands-on expertise in bioanalytical techniques (multiplex cytokine assays, assay development, etc.), human cell manipulation and culture, molecular biology techniques, and multi-parameter flow cytometry.   • Experience with human blood mononuclear cells

  • Experience with immunological assays (e.g., multiplex bead-based ELISAs, ultra-sensitive ELISA systems (e.g., MSD, Quanterix)), multi-parameter flow cytometry, in vitro functional assays with primary human cells, isolation of rare human primary cell population out of blood, biochemical techniques (PCR, western blotting, protein phosphorylation), etc.

  • Strong background in applying and developing bioanalytical techniques (assay development and qualification) for application to human clinical trial sample analysis in-house or transfer to CROs.

  • Work with project teams and cross-functional partners to identify and validate human translatable biomarkers, especially related to pharmacodynamic response and generation of tailoring hypothesis to be tested in clinical trials in autoimmune diseases

  • Record, analyze and communicate scientific data to supervisor/manager and project teams with clear interpretation of results and proposed next steps

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism, etc necessary for data analysis and organization of large datasets

  • Maintain high laboratory standards with regard to quality, safety and general laboratory housekeeping

Basic Requirements:

Bachelors of Science with at least 1 year of relevant research experience or training or Masters in Immunology, Cell Biology or related scientific field

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Excellent collaboration skills and team spirit

  • Understand principles of genetics and how they apply to autoimmune diseases

  • Experience in a pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology environment

  • Ability to contribute to project teams, with clearly defined critical paths, achievements and timelines

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with high proficiency in written and spoken English

  • Ability to critically interpret data
