The Lilly Genetic Medicines Team is looking for collaborative creative and energetic problem solvers to join a multidisciplinary team at the front edge of innovation. You will join our fast-paced, interdisciplinary team as we utilize novel RNA/oligonucleotide based therapeutic modalities to enhance the Lilly portfolio. The successful applicant will utilize their knowledge and technical expertise to accelerate the core capabilities and development of internal RNAi-based clinical candidates. Do you have an aptitude for large scale oligonucleotide synthesis and have a desire to learn about RNAi modalities in discovery and development that focus on identifying impactful therapies for the patient? Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Discovery oligosynthesis scale up group within Lilly Genetic Medicines.

  • Embedded within the leadership team to prioritize and accelerate Lilly RNAi Therapeutics to the clinic.

  • Work closely with members of the RNAi discovery chemistry teams to understand and validate requirements for synthesis scale up.

  • Actively support our efforts toward the discovery of lead drug candidates and collaborate with our CMC and Development team to develop and maintain optimal manufacturing and analytical practices for oligonucleotides.

  • Oversee and prioritize the work of contractors to meet critical timelines.

  • Communicate relevant information and results to chemistry team lead as well as other cross functional organizations within Lilly.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field with 1-2+ years of experience in synthetic organic and/or oligonucleotide chemistry.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Experience in process scale solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis using AKTAop 100 and trouble-shooting automated solid-phase synthesizers and optimizing synthetic protocols and reaction schemas.

  • Experience in the optimization of purification protocols for oligonucleotides including deprotection.

  • Knowledge or experience in the areas of bioconjugation chemistry, techniques used therein for conjugation to oligonucleotides.

  • Knowledge of oligonucleotide therapeutics including design and synthesis thereof.

  • Experience with analytical and physiochemical characterization of novel biomaterials (e.g., mass spectrometry, separation techniques and other biophysical/biochemical techniques)

  • Excellent record keeping and communication skills

  • Confident, execution-focused, and team oriented with a desire to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment
