As Lilly expands our cloud footprint, ensuring we understand what and how we are spending and then optimizing that spend is critical. To enable this capability at Lilly, we need someone that is interested in Cloud FinOps and has a cloud technology background to guide our application teams on how to optimize and manage their cloud spend.

You will be responsible for integrating FinOps tools, creating reusable design patterns and code modules to support optimization and Cloud Finance Management (CFM) policies at the enterprise level. In addition, you will own the configuration, maintenance, and improvement of the IDS Cost Transparency visualizations/dashboards. This role will also proactively recommend techniques to optimize cloud instances and eliminate unnecessary spend to various business application teams.

We are seeking a Cloud FinOps Analyst to be part of our team.

This role is part of Lilly Hosting and Cloud Services (HCS), that runs the IT Infrastructure Hosting and IaaS Cloud technologies across the enterprise. This spans from our Global Enterprise Data Centers, through our Storage/Backups, Disaster Recovery, Server Virtualization and Server Operating Systems both on premise and in our Lilly Private Cloud and Public IaaS offerings.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

  • Drive optimization through discovery, development, and sharing of cost-saving opportunities e.g., translating financial insights into actionable recommendations, promoting cost-aware architecture design, and leveraging code to automate resource optimization. In this capacity it is critical that you have high learning agility, ability to influence without authority, communication skills, and enjoy educating/guiding others.

  • Partner with the Cloud Foundation and Cloud Operations teams to implement CFM policies and optimize design through automation within the AWS and Azure enterprise environments

  • Act as the technical expert for the IDS Cost Transparency tools/dashboards. This includes configuring functionality, creating/enhancing visualizations, maintaining design and guidance documentation, and providing support.

  • Leverage the CFM tools, interpret the findings, and make technical recommendations to the business application teams to help reduce ongoing cost.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field

  • 2+ years working in cloud computing or IT infrastructure/platforms role

  • 2+ years of experience with AWS and/or Azure

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Experience with automation technologies for CI/CD (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, AWS Code pipeline)

  • Experience with visualization tools (e.g., QuickSight, Power BI)

  • Knowledge of cloud cost products (e.g., Cost Explorer, Azure Portal)

  • Experience with Python, JSON, YAML, ARM, Cloud Formation

  • Knowledge of cloud management and governance tools (e.g., Cloud Custodian, Trusted Advisor)

  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, CloudTrail, etc.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent documentation skills/methodologies, who can successfully manage multiple priorities

  • Demonstrable high level of intellectual curiosity, external perspective, and innovation interest.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex technical topics to a non-technical or IDS leadership audience
