This manager role will be accountable for leading and developing the processes and capabilities needed to deliver and then managing our global cloud cost optimization. Lilly Hosting and Cloud Services (HCS) runs the IT Infrastructure Hosting and IaaS Cloud technologies across the enterprise. This spans from our Global Enterprise Cloud Foundation, IaaS offering, Data Centers, through our Storage/Backups, Disaster Recovery, Server Virtualization and Server Operating Systems. Your role will include partnering and leading with other IDS engineers how we consume public cloud services. In this role you will work with the Director of Hosting and Cloud Services

Over time this role will focus 60% on leading/ coaching/developing the team/ and 40% on individual work developing processes/capabilities. it is critical that you have financial, technical and communication skills and enjoy educating and guiding others on the team and within IDS about how we can optimize cloud costs.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

  • Leading/ Coaching/ Developing the Cloud FinOps teams from ground up

  • Develop strategy and automation to maximize resource utilization and minimize costs

  • Become the Lilly expert of use of cloud costing and optimization tools and provide guidance

  • Promote and educate the Lilly community on Cloud Costing. Optimization strategies, Operating Guidelines/Principles, and Services/Solutions

  • Manage Monthly Cloud Cost Chargeback reports and assist with questions on utilization

  • Monitor Cloud Account financial thresholds to ensure compliance with ATS and approval limits

  • Assist with cost analyses, forecasts, and recommendations to leadership on a monthly basis

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • 3+ years working in a finance or IT infrastructure/platforms role or with transferable skills and experiences

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred

  • Strong analytical, organizational, issue identification, prioritization, and resolution skills and experience with data analysis tools

  • The role requires an understanding of Cloud Technologies/ Services, Financial processes and, IT Operations based on ITIL Framework.

  • Actively build and stay abreast of emerging technology directions, work with lead team to guide the organization on how to interpret and best leverage emerging technologies.

  • Desired 1 year of experience with IT Costing/Budgeting or Cloud Billing; desired 1 year of experience with reporting analysis tool or Internal Lilly experience with chargebacks and financial reporting

  • 1 Year of experience with AWS; certification desirable, Azure and or GCP a plus for Internal candidates

  • Advanced Experience with public and private cloud services including AWS and Azure

  • Prior working knowledge of the pricing and consumption models of at least one of the major public cloud providers and experience with market leading cloud cost products (e.g. Flexera RightScale, ServiceNow, CloudHealth or CloudCheckr) preferred

  • Experience with core cloud services; desired experience with billing, cost management, and data visualization tools such as BigQuery, Data Studio, Cost Explorer

  • High learning agility to keep up with ever changing business needs.

  • Demonstrable high level of intellectual curiosity, external perspective and innovation interest.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex technical topics to a non-technical audience (including senior leadership).

  • Ability to act as change agent and to take ownership of issues or opportunities until a proper solution is implemented
