Eli Lilly’s Medicines Development IT (MD IT) serves a strategic function within Lilly’s Medicines Development Unit (MDU). As part of its Digital MDU and Customer Engagement objectives, MD IT seeks to help increase the speed and to optimize medicine delivery to our patients through clinical trials.
MD IT’s Strategic Platforms team partners with business teams across the MDU to deliver unparalleled customer experiences to users both internal and external to Lilly. The team achieves this through tight partnership between User Experience Designers and our IT Development Team utilizing modern web technologies. The team currently focuses on 3 major areas:
The “Eden” program, which through www.LillyTrialGuide.com and other web properties engages patients and caregivers to educate on Clinical Research, and help them to find a Lilly Clinical Trial
Our internal “Cue” platform, which delivers new and accelerated capabilities for internal MDU personnel, particularly around modern Search
Fulfilling project needs throughout MD IT where User-Centric design methods and/or modern web technology capabilities are needed

The “Consultant” role in Lilly IT is a non-supervisor leader and coach/mentor who builds strong relationships with and influences IT and business colleagues as well as external parties. The Consultant has a wide breadth and depth across technical and business topics, and is comfortable leading large-scale projects and making decisions that impact an entire function or geography.
This Full-Time employee position as the Strategic Platforms Technical Architect will lead our development team in the assessment, design, development, and evolution of our technical architecture. This requires a deep understanding of website design and development, data integrations, and emerging technologies. In partnership with other team technical leaders, this role knits together our technologies and solutions to meet the current and emerging needs of our business partners. This Technical Architect will also ensure proper alignment with other Lilly IT groups such as the MDU and Enterprise Architecture Offices, and will also influence these groups. This resource will also be an active member of our agile development team.
This role is not focused on coding or development activities – it is focused on leading and influencing our technical architecture and direction. However recent or prior coding or development activities is a strong advantage in competition for this role, and development capability would be valuable.
Lead the technical full-stack implementation with the developer team of Lilly employees and vendors, and inspire the team to be creative, cross-functional, and effective in our agile team framework
Establish, then coach and ensure developers adhere to coding standards, framework best practices, team processes, tool sets and industry development trends
Evaluate and lead prototyping of technical capabilities from the developer community and emerging technology that would benefit the vision of the program
Inspire and mentor junior technical resources
Coordinate environment, code promotion and environment refreshes using DevOps methodologies and tools
Ensure partnership with UX Designers to ensure product designs are feasible and that implementations align with the team’s architecture strategy
Participate in initial reviews of potential LIDC Development projects, assessing and proposing potential solutions for technical needs
As a cross-functional agile team member, contribute to the team as needed, sometimes helping across traditional role boundaries (e.g., occasional development activities, defining system requirements / user stories, or defining and executing our testing / validation strategy).
Strong understanding of container based infrastructure and experience with cloud hosted infrastructure services such as Heroku or Amazon Web Services for applications
Understanding of web analytics and digital marketing techniques and best practices
Strong teamwork, self-management, problem-solving abilities
Excellent communication skills (active listening, written, and verbal)
Learning agility - experience learning new business processes and priorities, technical architectures and developments, and companies and work teams
Passion for delivering new capabilities with a creative startup-like mindset
Experience with non-relational storage systems such as Redis, MongoDB, Neo4j
Experience with ElasticSearch
Experience with Python, specifically Flask, Django, and any of its machine learning libraries
Experience with a CMS, especially Contentful CMS
Information Architecture and data modeling
Demonstrated ability to influence key business partner leaders and other IT groups
Experience working within an Agile/Scrum framework
Strong experience working with people in other countries and cultures, and appropriately challenging country personnel and regulation interpretations when needed
Experience within the clinical trials / clinical research business areas, either interfacing with patients, or working with clinical research professionals
Position is based in Indianapolis
Occasional domestic or global travel may be needed (less than 10%)

5+ years experience in technical roles on software development teams
2+ years experience with data flows, ETL, databases, or restful web APIs
Prior experience designing & managing delivery of modern Web-based applications (e.g., Heroku/AWS, NodeJS, Angular/React)
