Organization Overview:

The Competitive Continuous Improvement (CCI) team provides leadership in operational excellence and productivity efforts by combining knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing with Lean principles and tools. Methods used to deliver these productivity improvements include both event-based (Lighthouse Projects, Kaizen Events), as well as non event-based daily improvements. The focus of the CCI Coach role is to partner with all organizational levels across Indy Parenteral Manufacturing and global functions to deploy operational excellence standards and support both event and non event-based continuous improvement. Results include, but are not limited to, cycle time reduction, increased asset effectiveness, expense reduction, improved quality, as well as increased employee morale at all levels due to more time being spent on patient value-added activities.

Responsibilities:

Key Objectives/Deliverables

Lean Deployment

  • Lead launch events (e.g. 5S, Daily Management System, A3 Problem Solving) in assigned process areas. This includes facilitating Lean training, then applying the methodology in a way that ensures the area is getting value and that the process is sustainable.

  • Contribute to Lean program design for core elements (e.g. Visual Controls, Daily Accountability, Leader Standard Work) which are common across process areas

  • Partner with Global CCI on all aspects of Lean program design, incorporating lessons learned, promoting replication of best practices, and continuously improving Lean standards

  • Capture benefits of Lean program and celebrate successes

Lean Sustainment

  • Serve as ongoing Lean coach for areas already deployed, ensuring the discipline to sustain Lean remains in place

  • Execute Lean Maturity Assessments in areas deployed to promote ongoing continuous improvement with a PDCA approach

  • Partner with area leaders to ensure the importance of the leader role is understood, and coach leaders throughout execution of Lean processes to enable ongoing development of capability

  • Ensure processes are in place (e.g. Standard Work) and related training to ensure personnel turnover does not adversely impact sustainment

Breakthrough (event-based) Improvement Projects

  • Partner with site leadership, including site lead team and other governance forums, to identify and prioritize breakthrough improvements

  • Coach site leadership to ensure their expectations as sponsors of breakthrough improvements are clear, and provide support where needed to remove barriers

  • Partner with Global CCI and Global Functions in execution of cross-site initiatives (e.g. Total Productive Operations), living out the TEAM LILLY values by sharing best practices and by co-developing roll-out strategy

  • Actively participate in external forums to aid in innovative application of Lean and to incorporate learning from successes and failures of others

  • Serve as CCI Coach partnering with Sponsors and Process Owners to facilitate breakthrough improvement events using proven methodologies (e.g. Lean Lighthouse, A3, Kaizen)

  • Provide support to ensure robust Organizational Change Management and Monitoring Plans are in place to sustain improvements

  • Engage routinely with sponsors to provide status and escalate where appropriate as issues arise

  • Ensure lean principles and tools are integrated into both project execution and solution design

Other

  • Achieve CCI Coach certification

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in a science or technology field

  • At least 5 years of experience in Lean or a pharmaceutical manufacturing site

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication

  • Interpersonal interaction skills to be able to work effectively in a team-based environment

  • Strong self-management and organizational skills

  • Ability to lead teams and projects

  • Ability to influence without authority

  • Prior experience implementing Lean or Six Sigma programs

  • Six Sigma Black belt certification

  • Prior experience working in a GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing site

Additional Information:

  • Limited travel

  • M-F, 8 hour day shift

  • Position located in Indianapolis, IN

  • Project delivery and/or Plant Shutdown may coincide with company holidays

  • Occasional travel may be required for training, conferences, projects, etc.

  • Applicant will work in various areas within the Parenteral Plant

  • Some allergens are present in the Parenteral Plant.
