The External Intelligence (EI) team supports strategic and commercial planning across the Oncology Business Unit (OBU) by leveraging deep expertise in the marketplace and driving alignment regarding prioritized risks to the commercial and development portfolios. EI consultants act as strategic advisors to global product and program teams, therapeutic platforms, and senior leadership of the OBU. Utilizing publicly available information and maintaining objective views of the current and future markets, we strive to simplify market complexities and focus business partners on key threats to provide actionable insights. This individual will report directly to the Advisor - External Intelligence.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Market assessments – lead diverse, cross-functional teams to drive alignment on external assumptions that are foundational to Lilly commercial forecasts

  • Surveillance – collect, monitor and assess information to understand and anticipate market and scientific changes, needs and implications

  • Competitor movement – clinical and commercial

  • Environmental trends / threats

  • Market innovations and new technologies

  • Analysis, synthesis and action – distill information down to ‘digestible & relevant’ communications that drive action

  • Innovation – continually seek and/or develop innovative solutions to deliver excellent and efficient support to our business partners

  • OBU strategy – lead and/or contribute to key strategic deliverables and other projects undertaken by OBU leadership

  • OBU culture – lead by example and promote a ‘mindset and discipline’ for external focus, transparency and information-sharing

  • Prior experience with investment banking or strategic consulting

  • Strategic mindset – strong business acumen with an ability to apply internal and external business environment knowledge to strategy

  • Judgment and decision-making skills – ability to make sound observations and recommendations on critical issues with minimum supervision

  • Influence and action-oriented – ability to influence leadership and business partners to drive alignment and reach conclusions on market assumptions

  • Resilience – ability to recover quickly from setbacks or opposition

  • MBA preferred

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree;

  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in relevant areas, such as: drug development strategy, marketing/commercialization strategy, and equity research in biotech or pharmaceutical sector. Oncology experience preferred.
