The Medicines Development Unit plays a meaningful role in progressing the Lilly pipeline and driving the delivery of medicines from the time molecules leave the scientific research environment through product launch. Medicines Development IT (MD IT) is responsible for establishing the information management and technologies to enable the future capabilities of MDU, for delivery of solutions to meet approved information management and technology initiatives, and for the stability of the current solutions to meet evolving business needs. The role of the MD IT Technical Lead/Architect is to provide technical leadership and strategic direction on critical activities in order to achieve business objectives. Key responsibilities include applying the MD IT Strategy within MD applications and processes, translating data/system requirements to technical and solution design, developing code base for solution implementation, performing impact analyses across applications, managing expectations with business partners and software vendors for project work you're doing, consulting with testers and developers to creatively brainstorm and right-size effective solutions, and providing technical leadership for successful execution of large, complex projects.
This role will focus on the Portfolio Project Management (PPM) organization for MDU. The PPM IT team is a support and solution delivery organization. Key business applications in this space include Orion, Planisware, SAP, and IMPACT. This position combines the IT Career Framework roles of Architect, Technical Integrator, and Software Engineer.
Key Objectives and Work:
Design, develop, and implement solutions to business and IT problems.
Oversee development efforts of less experienced and third party developers to ensure high quality deliverables.
Evaluate proposed project ideas/software changes via impact analysis and estimated business value to influence decision-making.
Obtain and demonstrate deep knowledge of LRL business processes and technology to ensure solutions across LRL meet business and IT needs and to influence future application and business direction.
Provide technical direction, support, and leadership to project teams to ensure on-time project work you're doing.
Gain and demonstrate understanding and knowledge of how LRL IT strategies, platforms, and technologies enable business process execution.
Use increased business and technical knowledge to appropriately challenge status quo and drive business and IT collaboration.
Use relationships outside of LRL IT to enable increased productivity and seek opportunities to reuse internal processes and services to streamline support and implementation of key systems.
Anticipate, understand, and communicate the implications of technical decisions on the business, applications, and project timelines and influence decisions accordingly.
Able to define, lead, and execute technical work
Analyze and take on complex technical problems, including advanced data analysis and multiple technologies.
Leading development teams from a technical expertise perspective; i.e., finding better ways to use and/or implement a particular technology and influencing the team to embrace the change, infrastructure setup.
Leverage system testing knowledge to ensure testing methods are appropriate, coordinated and comprehensive to decrease probability of unexpected system issues or inability to optimize the systems' used to maximize business benefit.
Consult with testers and developers to creatively brainstorm and right-size effective solutions.
Manage expectations with IT management and software vendors for project deliverables
Experience with long term strategic vision.
Previous Pharmaceutical R&D IT experience
Experience leading teams or in formal leadership roles
Familiarity with Software Quality Assurance methods and techniques
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent self-management skills
Confirmed initiative to establish relationships, learn new business processes and find opportunities
Experience working with individuals across organization boundaries
Demonstrable ability to influence peers, perform and support programming, software integration, and data integration activities.

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology.
10+ years of experience in the software development process spanning project initiation, development, testing, deployment, support, and retirement.
Experience with application of requirements management, test management, and issue management for effective IT project delivery.
Experience with ITIL and key IT processes
