This Consultant position in the LRL Clinical, Medical, & Regulatory Sourcing group in Global Procurement supports the Diabetes Business Unit Clinical teams, the Biometrics organization, Data Management, and some of the internal teams that support them Globally. The role serves as a business partner to these areas to minimize supply risk and ensure competitive product and service costs with our vendors.

The position will lead the strategic sourcing process from strategy development and supplier selection through contract negotiation and ongoing supplier management. The position will work closely with the clinical development functions to address their business needs with our external providers. This will involve the following: understanding the market to ensure competitive environment, propose new opportunities where applicable, and to partner with finance, quality, legal and other functional groups to deliver optimal business results.

Account Management

  • Understand the requirements of the business partners on a global basis

  • Educate business partners on procurement practices and policies to maximize the value of the purchases

  • Build strong working relationships with business teams and functional leadership

  • Effectively use data and metrics to drive the optimal business outcomes and lead continuous improvement efforts

  • Communicate proactively on projects and other deliverables

Category Management

  • Build and maintain category expertise in Clinical Labs, Safety, and Regulatory services

  • Develop and implement category strategies for Clinical Labs, Safety, and Regulatory services by assessing the current situation, future needs, market place dynamics and benchmarking

  • Manage the supplier identification and selection process

  • Lead the contracting strategy development and negotiation process

  • Partner with the business to manage the strategic relationships


  • Partner with client areas to manage the risks, drive flexibility and reduce costs

  • Participate on cross functional procurement initiatives

  • Adhere to all corporate and procurement policies and procedures

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Proven ability to influence business decisions with senior management (both inside and outside Lilly)

  • Previous experience working in a pharmaceutical environment

  • Previous experience in managing third party relationships

  • Superior communication and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated project management skills

  • Experience in working in a regulated environment

  • Having a strong working knowledge of the movement of goods and related services for pharmaceutical products and the related regulations

  • Comprehension of and general understanding of GCP and other regulated operations

  • MBA preferred

  • Travel percentage: 0%-10%, dependent on business need

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree

  • At least 5 years of previous procurement work experience

  • At least 3 years of previous direct negotiation experience including understanding of the commercial laws
