Position Description

Medicines Development Information and Digital Solutions (MD IDS) serves as a strategic function within Lilly Research Laboratories (LRL) partnering with the Medicines Development Unit (MDU). The MDU focuses on taking potential marketable products from Research through product registration and approval.

MD IDS focuses on the MDU business needs of the future, enabling improvements through information and technology solutions. The teams define and influence information and business strategies, design and develop solutions to achieve the strategic outcomes, and ensure reliable deployment and support of these solutions.

This role will be responsible for explore solutions for complex problems within MDU leveraging cross functional teams to yield high business value.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate proposed project ideas, software design changes, and/or technology changes to influence architecture and design decision making.

  • Design and implement solutions to business problems

  • Oversee development efforts of less experienced and third-party developers to ensure high quality deliverables.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Engages with business and proactively seeks opportunities to deliver business value.  

  • Understands business requirements and effectively translates business needs and process into technical terms, and vice versa 

  • Elicits and defines requirements 

  • Ensures appropriate business roles are engaged in solution execution. 

  • Participates in design reviews to ensure traceability of requirements. 

  • Networks with appropriate IT colleagues to determine solutions to meet business partners’ needs. 

  • Seeks opportunities to reuse existing processes and services to streamline support and implementation of key systems.  

  • Stays abreast of tools and technologies to influence IT strategy so that it provides best usage opportunities for business

  • Partners with and influences vendor resources on solution development to ensure understanding of data and technical direction for solutions as well as delivery

  • Ability to adapt quickly in a constantly changing environment

  • Produces and maintains project documentation as required, including that of Computer Systems Quality

  • Uses standardized processes for requirements definition, analysis, design, construct, and test activities

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, management information systems or other STEM discipline

  • At least 2 years of software development life cycle, spanning the entire lifecycle from project initiation to deployment, support, and retirement

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant IT experience programing with Node.js or Python and JSON.

  • Two plus years of experience with relational and non-relational database technologies utilizing SQL, Data Functions and Procedures. (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB)

  • Knowledge and experience with current IT technologies

  • Basic knowledge of Service Management

  • Prior knowledge of pharmaceutical clinical lab data capture and integration tools and processes

  • Experience with managing and capturing requirements

  • Familiarity with Software Quality Assurance methods and techniques

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent self-management skills

  • Demonstrated initiative to build relationships, learn new business processes and identify improvement opportunities

  • Ability to work with individuals across organization boundaries

  • Ability to influence peers

  • Broad and deep technology learning agility

  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices regulatory requirements

  • Understands how to leverage agile methodology to drive business value and innovation

  • Experience leading teams or in formal leadership roles
