This position is part of the Engineering Technology Center as design specialist, focusing on mechanical systems and designs. The Engineering Technology Center (ETC) is part of Lilly's corporate engineering team, able to provide technical support to capital projects and facilities across Lilly's global footprint.
Establishes the Engineering Requirements for the mechanical and unit operation systems of capital projects across all aspects of Lilly, but most clearly drug substance facilities and drug product facilities for Lilly.
Perform evaluations and design guidance on mechanical systems that may include HVAC systems, utility systems (air, steam, water, glycol, etc.), waste treatment and disposal systems, as well as unit operations supporting drug substance and/or drug product.
Ensure the business needs, functional unit strategies, policies, standards, and product needs are translated into performance criteria.
Review engineering and design work by contractors and the submittals from suppliers and contractors against the engineering requirements including Lilly Global Quality Standards, Global Engineering Standards, and Engineering Master Specifications.
Maintain assigned Master Specifications including the review of exception requests and periodic reviews with internal (Lilly) groups and selected vendors/contractors to ensure Lilly specifies economically-efficient designs.
Assumes responsibility as the ETC Local Subject Matter Expert for assigned Global Engineering Standards, etc.
Ensures Lilly Engineering is effectively engaged at the appropriate level in reviewing the project designs for the projects assigned.
Participates in the Global Facility Delivery PDRI processes as requested.
BS in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical strongly preferred)
Minimum of 5 years manufacturing and/or engineering in support of plant operations or capital projects.
Demonstrated understanding of the design processes employed by engineering and architectural firms.
Familiarity with financial concepts (e.g. NPV, COPs).
Experience as a mechanical or process engineering in two or more of the following areas:
Small molecule bulk
Large molecule bulk
Demonstrated knowledge of non-US codes and standards applicable to mechanical systems and components relevant to Lilly sites.
Must possess strong business acumen, with an awareness of the life cycle cost evaluation processes as they apply to equipment and systems.
Must have demonstrated good written and verbal communications for the projects assigned skills.
Must have the ability to lead groups including internal and external resources to provide profile and study content.
Must be able to work in an environment where limited or conflicting direction is given.
Proven flexibility in adapting and adjusting to changes in working practices and a willingness to take on different roles as required by the needs of the Engineering Tech Center.
Ability to work with diverse perspectives and to identity and resolve issues with minimal direction.
Manufacturing or engineering support to pharmaceutical or API networks preferred.
Position requires some domestic and international travel(On average between 10% to 25%) —but can be more during conceptual, basic, and detailed design of major projects as well as technical support during commissioning and qualification.
