In 1992, Eli Lilly and Company established the Delivery, Device, and Connected Solutions (DDCS) business for the purpose of creating, developing, launching and refining proprietary drug delivery device systems. This business is unique to the broader Lilly Research Labs organization due to its focus on patient centered drug delivery system solutions, its innovative approach to drug delivery platforms utilizing both internal and external technologies, and its level of integration with the commercial groups and Business Units.

We are seeking an inspirational leader and accomplished, technical expert to manage the embedded systems organization comprised of electrical and software engineers while also serving as a software lead on connected care and digital health project(s). Key responsibilities include the following:
Embedded Systems Manager (approximately 60%)
Coordinate career and professional development tailored to the needs and motivations of team members. Lead individual training plans, performance management program, employee/team recognition, and eliminate blockers impeding progress.
Design, develop, recommend, and implement staffing assignments, priorities, and strategies. Forecast, budget, and monitor department budgets and the supply and demand resource forecast model.
Recruit, retain, develop, and maintain a robust pipeline of internal / external talent.
Analyze organization performance to identify improvement opportunities and deliver enduring solutions. Prioritize improvement of embedded systems processes, procedures, policies, and tools.
Serve as a role model and champion for quality, HSE (health, safety, and environment), ethics and compliance requirements and initiatives.
Embedded Software Lead (approximately 40%)
Develop and deliver safe and reliable real time, embedded software solutions, reusable/portable code libraries, and low-level device drivers.
Engage in project planning activities while supporting the generation of RFPs for vendors and suppliers. Provide engineering oversight of contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) field.
5+ years of engineering management, engineering functional management, project or program management, and/or technical leadership experience.
Additional Skills / Preferences:
Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering
Comfortable and confident when coaching, developing, and mentoring junior and senior level electrical engineers and software engineers.
Solutions driven problem solver, adaptive to change, and highly effective at leading multiple, high visibility priorities. Maintains a positive demeanor and outlook when confronted with challenges.
Experience with the full lifecycle product development of electromechanical drug delivery device systems. Possess a firm understanding of GMP, design control, and quality system requirements
5+ years of progressive hands-on embedded software, firmware, and/or embedded systems engineering experience.
Expert knowledge of software development lifecycle methodologies with strong skills in embedded firmware development using C programming language
Strong knowledge and experience in the areas of software architecture, multithreaded systems, device drivers, digital signal processing, control systems, and wireless communication protocols
Understanding of ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, IEC 62304 and experience with FDA software class C regulatory requirements
Familiar with embedded hardware development including schematic and PCB design of microcontroller-based control circuits, design of RF communication, and digital/analog circuit design
Outstanding soft skills with excellent written and verbal communication capabilities, able to effectively collaborate, interact, and influence both business and technical partners and leaders
Primary location is at Lilly Technology Center – North, Indianapolis, IN
