Lilly Engineer-Global Facilities-Design Lead in Indianapolis, Indiana

The Design Lead is responsible for supporting Profilers and Project Managers in the development of capital through all phases of design (Profile, Conceptual, Basic and Detail.
Depending on candidate background this position will focus on API, Dry Products, PPN, IDM, and/or Elanco network to work with site resources to build consensus between Global engineering and the Manufacturing network sites.
In addition to capital projects, the Design Leads will be involved in the review and continued development of the Engineering Standards/Engineering Master Specifications and their respective application in the capital project design process.
The Design Lead will work with various Project Managers to drive the design aspects of major capital projects.
The Design Lead will assist in the development of standard operating procedures and best practices related to design and ensure they remain current with industry best practices.
The Design Lead will coordinate all design for the Project Manager during the all design phases of the project and be responsible in delivering the conceptual design review and basic design review.
The Design Lead will direct the development of the design requirements.
The Design Lead will assist in development and maintenance of the design schedule to meet the project needs.
The Design Lead will coordinate with A/E firms to develop earned value progress systems to measure progress by discipline (monitor work versus invoice amounts).
The Design Lead will expedite design decisions and coordinating information flow between the design team and system owners.
The Design Lead is responsible for ensuring the design meets approved intent through interactions between the design firm, design specialists, engineering tech center disciplines, and end user/customer.
The Design Lead is responsible for design activities and governance through the (both within Lilly and contractors) timely resolving issues.
The Design Lead will work to create and own the design schedule.
The Design Lead will examine areas of inefficiency and develop strategies for improvement to direct the design team to meet or improve on the design hours plan.
The Design Lead will review and approve along with the respective Project Manager the key design project personnel (both internal and external resources).
The Design Lead will work with Design Specialists, Engineering Tech Center resources, and other key project team technical/constructability resources to address and resolve design issues.
The Design Lead ensures replication is achieved during design when applicable.
The Design Lead will support the Project Manager for value engineering exercises efforts to maximize project opportunities.
The Design Lead is responsible for the application of the appropriate Engineering Design Standards, Engineering Functional Standards, Engineering Specifications and Regulatory requirements
The Design Lead is responsible for the overall design quality.
The Design Lead will review design-related invoices prior to approval.
The Design Lead will participate in the selection of the A/E firm.
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical strongly preferred)
Minimum of 5 years manufacturing and/or engineering in support of pharmaceutical or Active Product Ingredient networks
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position
Must have an understanding of the capital project delivery process, A/E design activities, and the understanding of the available Lilly technical resources (user reps, ETC resources, and design specialists).
Must be able to concisely communicate complex options to a cross functional/multi-company team in order to gain consensus on design direction.
The person will have an extensive network of peers in similar positions in the industry, both in the owner and the contractor communities.
Detailed knowledge of systems and processes used by engineering contractors in the US market is essential, and a good understanding of how methods in other countries vary from this.
This person would have demonstrated values that are consistent with the Lilly values.

Demonstrated teamwork with their peers with successful interactions and leadership when working across functional groups.
Must be able to frame complex decisions/analyses, facilitate to a decision, and implement according to the plan.

Must have project mgmt. experience – the ability to lead groups including internal and external resources.
Must be willing and able to challenge others within and outside Lilly maintain scope definition.
Must be able to work in an environment where limited or conflicting direction is given (such as project scope definition vs user requests).
Must strive to achieve the optimum business solution from a design perspective at all times. Must not pursue own personal agendas or allow them to interfere.
Must create creditability and be influential in getting agreement between site, corporate engineering, A/E firm decision-makers and stakeholders who have differing opinions
Familiarity with financial concepts (e.g. NPV, COPs, EFSs, EDSs, Design Process, etc.)
Understanding of decision science concepts and can provide structure to decision making
Familiarity with MS Sharepoint configurations (i.e. LillyNet sites)
Position may require significant travel away from base location depending on locations of contractors and projects. Travel may include overnight, over-weekend, and potentially longer periods. Some international travel – on average not more than 20% but can be more during design of major projects. The potential of co-location at the A/E firm for short periods of time could occur based on project needs
