Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$64,500 - $167,200

Position Brand Description:

Provides support for the maintenance, reliability, and optimization of process and utility equipment across Indianapolis Device Assembly and Packaging (IDAP) to ensure a reliable and compliant supply of medicine to our patients. This individual will establish and guide the site’s reliability strategy. Additionally, the individual will work closely with all levels of operations, maintenance, engineering, and quality to identify, prioritize, and analyze critical equipment downtime, develop / adjust maintenance plans, and leverage process and equipment metrics to solve equipment reliability and maintenance problems. Field support may be required to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment issues. The engineer may be required to perform unique component and system analyses to identify reliability improvements and risk reduction improvements through design modifications and/or various reliability improvement strategies. This individual will be a key member of engineering leadership team and mentor engineers in the advancement of functional capabilities and may have one or more direct report(s).

Key Objectives / Deliverables:

  • Provides oversight and stewardship of site reliability processes

  • Develops, mentors, coaches, and recognizes employees within their organization

  • Develops, mentors, and coaches engineers, mechanics, and technical leaders across the organization

  • Promotes problem solving methodology and data driven analysis

  • Collaborates and supports engineering with design, development, and implementation of maintenance strategies to operate safely, in compliance (HSE & GMP), and to optimize cost, efficiency, and effectiveness

  • Supports process engineers, technicians, and others, to implement recommended actions as developed in the maintenance strategies

  • Supports process engineers in the collection, compilation, and interpretation of data from various sources to determine the significant contributors to manufacturing downtime

  • Implements resolutions to manufacturing downtime with business systems that may not exist or are inadequate. Implementation may require independent activity and influencing others not interested in changing business practices.

  • Leverages and supports leaders, engineers, technicians, and crafts persons, to implement solutions to identified manufacturing downtime

  • Performs structured problem solving independently or through facilitation with other engineers, technicians, crafts people, and operators

  • Communicates to various levels of the organization the interpretation of manufacturing data, the recommendations of problem solving and the results

  • Understands the manufacturing equipment and processes and the impact of equipment performance within the manufacturing system

  • Educates and promotes proper use of the CMMS system and ALCOA+ principles for developing maintenance strategies, maintenance execution, and documenting equipment history

  • Audits, ensures compliance, and promotes CMMS data accuracy and structure

  • Supports engineering for the selection and installation of equipment for maintainability and equipment availability as well as spare parts identification and stocking strategy

  • Develops component health assessment strategies or maintenance strategies with the process engineers, technicians, operators, and crafts persons for the various process systems. Utilizes reliability centered maintenance (RCM) analysis (FMEA) on systems and components, as necessary

  • Ensures correct application of predictive maintenance technologies across site. Seeks and implements new technologies to enhance equipment performance and availability.

  • Assists the maintenance organization by improving the efficiency of the work management system

  • Supports process engineers in determining sensible data collection to determine equipment performance

  • Supports process engineers in determining causes of performance degradation of equipment as required

  • Utilizes appropriate techniques and tools (RCA, RCM analysis, failure analysis, etc.) to investigate and reduce equipment-related deviations

  • Provides training necessary for development of technical support personnel (Precision Maintenance, Failure Analysis, etc.)

  • Ensures a safe working environment by following safety rules and helping improve the safety culture

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience using and directing the use of FMEA and RCA processes

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently without close supervision

  • Adequate interpersonal and communications skills to be able to work effectively in a team-based environment

  • Strong computer skills in a variety of software packages (Microsoft Office, etc.)

  • Ability to work in a safe manner to ensure the safety of self and others

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, working safely and accountable for supporting all HSE Corporate and Site Goals

Additional Preferences:

  • Previous experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment or process problems

  • Knowledge of automation systems / software to facilitate data collection

  • Working knowledge of FDA Regulations including cGMP and GLP

  • Working knowledge of ISO standards, IEC standards, and industry best practices

  • Working knowledge of Preventive and Predictive Maintenance techniques, including but not limited to Tribology, Vibration Analysis, Thermography, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, equipment installation requirements, etc.

  • Ability to make individual, small group, and large group presentations

  • Must be able to lead, interact with and coach a wide variety of individuals / roles: including but not limited to shop floor mechanics, operators, and management

  • Excellent problem solving, teamwork and interpersonal skills and looks for win-win solutions to challenging business and operational issues

  • Ability to make and communicate verbally and in writing, logical decisions using data

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field or 4+ years' experience in the reliability field.

Other Information:

  • 8-hour days, after-hour support

  • Occasional travel may be required for training, conferences, capital projects, etc.
