Job Title: Engineer Automation

Organization Overview:

Deliver and support Automation solutions for stakeholders in the LTC central utilities area with a focus on process systems and small projects management. Apply first principles to automation solutions for process systems, implement engineering solutions to improve the functionality of utilities systems, and a follow disciplined approach to project delivery, ensuring local projects comply with corporate expectations of good project management.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe, injury free workplace.

  • Comply with and support all company and departmental HSE policies and practices.

  • Participate and comply with Workpace, BSafe, and eMinor reporting programs.

  • Participate monthly in one HSE walkthrough, Job Safety Analysis, or Self-Assessment.

  • Work closely with customer areas and be responsible for understanding project needs, including the controls hardware and Human Machine Interface (HMI).

  • Provide end-user requirements for all Global Facilities Delivery (GFD) or Utilities capital projects that utilize an outside integrator to deliver validation deliverables.

  • Deliver design and implementation of automation software/hardware for new projects

  • Apply technical skills to supply quantifiable business value.

  • Suggest project improvements and process optimization through process control.

  • Provide technical solutions based on first principles.

  • Design, develop, and test software based on customer functional requirements.

  • Ensure project resources understand their responsibilities, manage resource conflicts and facilitate sound project execution.

  • Deliver training programs, lead project teams and make presentations to your customers and site leaders.

  • Define and provide project metrics.

  • Leverage external knowledge.

  • Participate in the design of automation strategies.

  • Capital Investment Request creation and project execution.

  • Manage project contracts and ensure corporate vendor management policies are followed.

  • Manage relationships with contract personnel.

  • Implement and fully document software and hardware changes following the change control process.

  • Keep documentation for the area supported in compliance with the corporate Computer Systems Validation Policies, cGMPs, Electronic Records/Signatures, etc.

  • Ensure all deviations are approved within 30 days and commit to meeting any schedule set forth as a result of countermeasures or action plans.

  • Stay current on Learning Plan, striving to maintain or exceed a target of 100%.

  • Participate in Six Sigma and other continuous improvement projects. Understand customer processes and develop means of improving the controls.

  • Technical consultant on analysis, decisions and idea generation.

  • Expand knowledge of automation to enhance current capabilities and develop skills on other systems in the group as opportunities present themselves.

  • Basic Requirements:

  • Experience with programmable logic controllers hardware and software.

  • Demonstrated experience in technical project management

  • Proficiency with computer systems including Microsoft Office products.

  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication and interpersonal interaction skills.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with individuals and teams.

  • Education Level

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

  • Experience

  • 5 + years of process controls experience

  • Focus on Rockwell Automation RSLogix5000

  • Development

  • Troubleshooting

  • HMI programming and configuration

  • Networking topologies and controls system infrastructure

  • Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Proven project management skills/certification.

  • Previous experience with GMP systems and documentation requirements.

  • Previous experience with computer system validation.

  • Proficiency with computer systems Microsoft Sharepoint, Visual Basic, SQL

  • PC programming language experience

  • VBA, Python,R,HTML

  • PID Loop tuning

  • Process Instrumentation

  • Additional Information:

  • Engineer must complete Learning Plan for the Automation Engineer position.

  • Hazardous operations exist in the utilities area that may utilize acid, caustic, steam, chlorine, high pressures and high temperature, or create high noise in the manufacture of utilities systems. Appropriate PPE must be worn.

  • Expand knowledge of automation to enhance current capabilities, assess the impact of new technologies, and develop skills on other systems in the group as opportunities present themselves.

  • Automation personnel are committed to the principles of continuous improvement, therefore the Engineer should continually acquire technical and business knowledge and apply this knowledge to the role.
