Responsibilities :

This engineering position is part of the Engineering Tech Center focused on capital project support, technical leadership, and discipline stewardship. This role will provide discipline leadership in Mechanical Engineering (including oversight of the community, technology development, knowledge sharing, mentoring of junior talent, etc.), provide technical consultation to sites (including CMOs/Alliances), support major capital, and network with the external community at large.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

  • Major Capital Support - Provide technical consulting, both at conceptual and detailed design, to Global Facilities Delivery on major capital projects; focus of this technical consulting will be in the mechanical engineering fields such as HVAC, Utilities.

  • Technical and Discipline leadership – senior level mechanical engineering consultant with special focus on utility systems (i.e. water and steam); partner with other senior technical staff to direct mechanical discipline activities including oversight of the community, new technology development and technology assessments, creation and maintenance of Engineering Standards, Master specifications and Best Practices for the discipline, and coaching and mentorship of junior engineering staff globally.

  • Consultation - assist sites globally (including CMOs/Alliances) with master planning, technology assessments, and specific problem resolution including troubleshooting and root cause analysis

  • Knowledge sharing - Provide ongoing technical support to site plant engineering groups , domestic and global (including CMOs/Alliances); provide technical mentoring to Lilly engineers; participate in the creation and maintenance of Engineering Standards, Master Specifications, and Best Practices.

  • External Influence - Monitor and, when appropriate, influence changes in external codes and standards on Lilly’s behalf, and work to ensure ongoing compliance within Lilly

  • Productivity improvement – routinely identify and implement systemic improvements focused on improving cost effectiveness and stewardship of Lilly assets in plants/processes globally

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related science

  • Minimum 10 years experience in mechanical engineering including design, construction, and/or maintenance

  • Minimum 3 years manufacturing or plant experience in a regulated environment

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Technical areas of expertise must include utility generation (i.e. boilers, compressors, chillers, cooling towers) and utility distribution, with particular emphasis on high purity waters and pure steam

  • Good PC skills; excellent verbal and written communications skills; strong problem solving and analysis skills (including appropriate use of data and metrics and ability to form business case)

  • Project coordination and leadership skills

  • Successful candidate will frequently work independently and, as such, must be a self-starter and capable of working with little direction

  • PE (or European equivalent)

  • Additional technical expertise in HVAC and energy reduction/efficiency; knowledge of C4I, six sigma or other related productivity improvement processes/tools

Additional Information:

  • Domestic (including Puerto Rico) and some International travel required
