Organization Overview:

Global Information Services (GIS) plays an integral role in the delivery of the infrastructure services that enable the information technology solutions that drive business processes across the enterprise. GIS pursues its services with constant emphasis on running reliably, helping people work smarter, making IT easier, securing information fully, and improving. In close partnership with Information Security (IS), GIS is evolving our overall security capabilities across the enterprise.


The Enterprise Network Firewall Engineer role will be accountable for designing, building, and maintaining next generation network firewall capabilities in collaboration with IS and the Data Center Network Architect. The role also provides enterprise security planning and consulting with Lilly Research Labs (LRL) and Manufacturing (M&Q). The role will assume direct accountability for the technical aspects of solution delivery activities related to changes in the network firewall architecture, lifecycle management of devices, firewall policy management, and customer projects. This will include working closely with Information Security (IS), Hosting and Cloud Services teams, Application Development teams, Manufacturing, Research Labs, and the Managed Service providers. The role primarily supports the delivery of new capabilities and projects; however, the technical expertise of the role holder will also be used to help ensure operational reliability and address major incidents. This is accomplished through close coordination and oversight of the Managed Service provider responsible for the operational support.

  • Lead a team of Lilly and supplier resources in the delivery of network firewall projects

  • Develop and implement cost effective and highly reliable enterprise network firewall service while partnering with the IS, managed service providers for alignment and implementation.

  • Provide network firewall consulting for the enterprise including GIS, LRL, M&Q, and Information Security (IS).

  • Lead communication and represent functions in management meetings and architecture reviews.

  • Work closely with the IS and Quality to ensure network related risks are identified and ensure future changes are in alignment with other standards and architectures.

  • Partner with Managed Service Provider on major incident resolution.

  • Review root cause analysis for high severity issues and leverage for Continual Service Improvements and maintain security integrity of our network.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 8+ years of experience with enterprise network design, implementation, and support

  • 3+ years of experience with enterprise network security

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead change in both business and IT context

  • Demonstrated ability to influence vendor and business strategies and direction

  • Demonstrated knowledge of telecom processes or equivalent experience in a large enterprise environment

  • Understanding of facility network cable plant processes or equivalent experience in a large enterprise environment

  • CISSP, CISM, NCSF or higher security certifications strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise network firewall design, implementation, support

  • Demonstrated experience with network policy management

  • Demonstrated experience with scripting languages and network process automation

  • Demonstrated experience with Cloud Native and third-party cloud security technologies

  • Demonstrated experience in diverse product management, including full life cycle management, platform/system qualification, supplier management, and service management

  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, leadership, and communication skills (both verbal and written) including articulating technical solutions to non-technical personnel

  • Demonstrated success in utilizing experience and knowledge to persuade others in reaching desired outcomes

  • Demonstrable experience building relationships and networking with people outside of direct organization.
