Industrial Safety Technical Lead provides technical support and oversight for a broad array of industrial safety disciplines for the LRL organization. The role is responsible to review and determine applicability and assess risk for industrial safety aspects across multiple laboratory based research geographies, assisting with prioritization, action plan development, and technical consulting for LRL sites.

The position requires a self-starter with strong networking and communication skills with a team based approach that partners with the business to achieve results in compliance areas such as: industrial safety, LOTO, confined space, robotic safety, change management, and contractor Safety, Process Safety Management and Combustible Dust. This role supports partners such as Global LRL Scientists and Engineers, Tech Services, Engineering Tech Center, IFM organization, Contract Holders, Flexible staff, GFD and LRL Management. This role requires integrating the Team Lilly approach to bring all Global LRL resources together as needed to resolve business critical issues and to promote continued improvement and time management.

  • Manage and implement LRLHSE compliance program direction for Industrial Safety Programs focus on LOTO, Machine Guarding, Confined Space Entry, Pressure Safety and Change Management.

  • Perform/provide LRL evaluations, guidance and risk assessments related to: 1) Fire Safety and Bldg. Codes studies, 2) Facility capital project Engineering designs and safety improvements, 3) Change Management integration/risk reduction within LRL processes and systems as it relates to: a) interface with external users, i.e. facilities management or external sites and b) any large or small molecule operation start-up, modification and shut-down in discovery or development areas; 4) Robotic Safety for applications with industrial robotics and robotics in pharma industry

  • Evaluate/Conduct Process Safety Management assessments, audits, and OSHA VPP certifications

  • Responsible for tracking external safety and health Regulatory (OSHA), scientific chemical safety, technical changes from codes and standards that could have impact on LRL business

  • Manage LRLHSE industrial safety compliance with Global Lilly Combustible Dust and GIPSM requirements to reduce and eliminate catastrophic risk to facilities and business operations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or other Engineering, Industrial Safety, or related discipline

  • 7 years work experience in Health, Safety and Environment with experience including Chemical Process Safety Program

  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA 1910 regulations, VPP and OSHA 1926 regulations

  • Familiarity with Codes and Standards: NFPA, ANSI, CGA, and others

  • Work experience in managing contracts/working with contractors

Preferences:

  • Effective interpersonal and relationship management skills

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Effective time management skills

  • Familiarity with Global LRL sites and resources at each site

  • Familiarity and/or experience working with external technical business partners

  • Experience working with contractors in the field on construction and maintenance projects at Lilly

  • Experience in creating and promoting a positive safety culture principles

  • Demonstrated experience in professional networking across organizations or industry networks

  • Certified Safety Professional, Professional Engineer, or other applicable certification

Additional Information:

  • Industrial Safety, Chemical Safety and Process Safety acknowledgement, certificates, or certification a plus

  • Normal work shift is M-F and flex-time is possible

  • 10-30% travel required
