We continue to build on this history through research and development efforts that aim at next generation therapies. We have one of the largest pipelines in Diabetes in the industry and are committed to continuing to build our leadership in Diabetes and its complications through innovation in drug discovery and development. Lilly strives to employ innovative post-doctoral fellows/researchers who are passionate about the science as well as improving our communities and the world in which we live.
The Diabetes and Complications Therapeutic Area (DCTA) has an outstanding opportunity for a post-doctoral fellow who can apply physiological knowledge and methodologies to better understand heart failure pathophysiology and possible therapies. This position is unique in that it will be co-mentored by a drug discovery scientist and a clinical development physician . In addition, as member of the CardioRenal team within DCTA you will work in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment of scientific excellence. This role offers regular interactions with Lilly scientists who have expertise and knowledge in the cardiac and renal research areas, drug discovery and clinical development. We welcome diverse, innovative perspectives and contributions that will help advance Lilly diabetes drug discovery.
Are you an ambitious post-doctoral scientist with strong research skills wanting to contribute to highly visible research projects? This role will focus on unraveling the mechanisms of action of novel treatment for heart failure (HF). We expect that the results from this preclinical research will ultimately inform future clinical trials and patient selection strategies and contribute to the development of a heart failure therapy. In this role, the scientist will:
Design and implement a series of acute and chronic cardiac functional studies to investigate the mechanism of a novel compound in heart failure clinical development.
Characterize this therapy in preclinical models and explore signaling pathways that are involved in disease pathogenesis and progression.
Work with others in a highly collegiate and collaborative environment.
Present findings at conferences and publish in high quality, peer-reviewed journals.
This role is for a self-directed and highly motivated individual who seeks to learn new techniques while continually pursuing research and publication goals. If attention to detail and a drive for excellence sounds like you, apply today and join the Lilly family!
Ph.D. in Physiology, Pharmacology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related subject area.
Knowledge of cardiac physiology, echocardiography and/or cardiac pressure-volume relationship; Hands-on echocardiography experience is not required, but strongly preferred.
Experience in the handling of small laboratory animals and/or prior experience with preclinical in vivo models of heart failure.
Strong written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by a publication record in peer reviewed high quality/impact scientific journals and presentations at national and international meetings.
Significant experience with cell culture and ex vivo studies as well as with molecular biology and protein- and mRNA-level analysis.
Proficient in data analysis and reporting (Excel, PRISM, SigmaPlot etc.).
This is not a permanent position. It is for a fixed duration of two years with the potential to extend to 3 years and a maximum of up to 4 years.

About Eli Lilly’s Postdoctoral Scientist Program
When it comes to research and development, our goal is to discover and deliver innovative medicines that make life better for people around the world. It’s challenging, expensive and often filled with failure. But even when we fail, we advance medical science and understanding by learning more about diseases, biology and chemistry – ultimately bringing new solutions one step closer to reality.
Over the course of our history, we have shed light on some of the toughest health care problems known to man – diabetes, heart disease, infectious diseases, neuroscience disorders, cancer and more. We could not pursue this without our research and development team.
Postdoctoral scientists help us continue this pursuit. During your experience you will get:
Top industry research experience
Mentoring by some of Lilly’s top scientists
Laboratory and classroom training and education to further your development
Collaboration and networking across dozens of postdoctoral scientists and other researchers
